Question AfterMarket Head Unit "Compulsery" ?

Kind Of A Long Post... (Sorry!)
Well, I'm Thinking of Going And Getting A 2008 Acura TL With Navi. ( I Want The Navi). Now, I Am A Big 370z Person And Was Thinking Of Getting That Car But With GIGANTIC Budget Problems I'm Opting For A 2008 Acura TL With Navi. Now I'm Not Sure How The Audio Systems Are In The TL's But In The 370z, If You Got The Touring With Navi, You COULD NOT Change The Head Unit Out, You Had To Use The LOC and Keep The Stock Bose Head Unit.

So, Now To My Question, If I Get The TL With Navigation, I'm Going To be Putting In A 12" Kicker L7, Change Out Speakers Etc. Is The Head Unit Integrated With The Navi? Or Will It Work Without A LOC. And If i Keep The Head Unit Without the LOC, How Will The Sound Be Like?

I Tried Searching But Couldn't Find Much But If It's There Then I'm Sorry But Hopefully I'll Get My Answers And Not Get Trolled/Flamed. Lol.

Thank You....

If you don't have navi, it's still not easy to physically install an aftermarket HU but it can be done. If you have navi, there's a chip/board inside of the stock HU that the navi won't work without.

For just a sub, it's very easy. Install a LOC from the stock sub wire in the trunk and send it to the aftermarket amp. You retain subwoofer control from the stock HU that way.

The TL uses an amp after the HU and that's where choices have to be made. Some people pull signal for the mids/highs from the speaker level outputs of the stock amp and some people pull the signal from the low voltage signal from the HU, before the stock amp. Each one has it's pros and cons.

Some amps accept high level inputs so it would be as easy as running the factory speaker wires into your aftermarket amp, some will require a LOC. If you pull the signal from the HU, you will likely need a line driver to boost the signal.

If you run aftermarket speakers off of the stock amp you will likely be disappointed since the TL's speakers are 2ohm and pretty efficient. You will likely lose SPL.

On the upper end, some of us use processors. I still run the stock HU but just the front left and right outputs go into my processor and the processor takes it from there. There are many options but the easiest is to just use a LOC and go to an aftermarket amp.

The ELS HU is not that bad. Sure, you can get better sound quality out of a really good aftermarket unit, but many (many) of us have just kept the stock unit.

The weak links are the stock amp and speakers if you want sound quality.

Just browse around here for a few weeks and you will learn most of what you need to know. These questions come up all of the time.

Thats Sweet... Less Things To Buy...
I Doubt that the stock amp would be able to push a 12" Kicker L7. haha
And the AMP that i have, do i just disconnect the stock and plug in the new?
ima have to take a closer look soemtime soon.......

No LOC needed usually. You might need one if the voltage is too high, but we'll get to that later.

What amp do you have?

Stock amp would not push that sub. A wall socket would
