Aftermarket Audio System: help needed

Hey guys,

Just today, I visited a relative of mine who's really into modifyin his ride. After a while of chattin he said somethin like that he was goin for a brand new look on his custom audio system on his car. To cut the story short, he gave me a kenwood KAC-X811D amplifier and told me to start modyin my car. Anyway I think it is time I invest something on my 04 TL.

First question: Is this amplifier any good. If yeah, what subs are you guys recommending to go with it. This ampli has the followin specs:
-Max Output Power: 1600 Watts x 1
-RMS Power Output (1-Ohm/1 Channel): 1016 Watts (1.0% THD+N)
-RMS Power Output (2-Ohms/1 Channel): 919 Watts (1.0% THD+N)
-RMS Power Output (4-Ohms/1 Channel): 533 Watts (1.0% THD+N)
Im thinkin of getting 2 12" subs, but havent decided on what brand. So recommendation please.

Second question: Do I replace my stock ampli with this new ampli or do I have to do it some other way. Can I install more than 1 aftermarket ampli? Im noob on these kinds of stuff. That cousin of mine suggested I ask in the forum since he has little knowlodge on TL. And so I did.

Some inputs please... and thanks in advance

No you do not replace your stock amp. There are a few posts in here that tell you the wiring diagrams for the stock amp. But it is located on the passanger side kick panel behind it. Second you wanna splice into the wires before the amplifier that go to the sub. Then wire in a LOC. Then run RCA's from it to the amp. There should also be a remote turn on somewhere up front also. You can install more amps also but if you do i would use the jlaudio cleansweep or audiocontrol unit instead of the plain old LOC for that for sound quality reasons. As for sub suggestions depends what you are looking for sound wise.

I do car audio for a living! And no you do not have to replace the factory amp! And you do not have to cut into the sub wire before the amp! In my TL, I spliced in right at the sub! That way I could still use the acura sub controls! Then the remote wire for the amp is easy if you have a navigation system! Because obviously the the Navigation is in the trunk! Your thinking about doing 2 12's! Thats to much bass for my blood!! I put two 10 inch alpine type R woofers in mine!! And it sounds good!!! I built my box so that the port hole would shoot through the ski pass! And the subs fire at the back seats, that helps it so the trunk wont rattle as much! You can check a couple pictures of mine on this link!

If you want two 12's i would go with two new type-r's without any second thoughts. That was what i was going to do until i decided to go with one type-x. I needed more trunk space, and i would say one type-x hits just as hard as 2 R's, but with better sq - though it does cost mroe than 2 type r's. If you def want 2 subs, def go with 2 type r's.

Your gonna have ot live with vibrations...everything in the car literally moves and vibrates. The only annoying vibration is the rear deck lid...the lid would be pumped up and down and smack against the back window. I jsut found a temporary cure for this yesterday by taking small pieces of flat rubber and wedging it between the rear deck and window. It absorbs the shock so it doenst make that aful and well known rear deck rattle, only amplified by 1000 times more. The next thnig you will have to deal with is your trunk...the rattle will be rediculously loud from outside.
