Acuralink useless?
Acuralink useless?
So...I am a new owner 2007 TL-S. I have been reading up as much as I can, but i have not found definitive answers on Acuralink. I currently am only concerned with it for diagnostic purposes. Is there a fee to pay for connection? It is my understanding that the XM link allows Acura to send messages about the vehicle???? Any problems with the car will still be displayed via onboard indication (check engine light...nav screen)? Is the displaying isses (airbag off....and such) on the nav screen just for fun? Because there is a pass airbag light.... Sorry if these questions are basic.
I believe to use the Acuralink you have to link up your phone with it. There is no service charge because the messages are sent to the car via your phone service. There's a list here of what phone companies and phones that work with the system plus you can go on Acura.com to check as well.
I haven't had any diagnostic problems on my car yet, but it came in handy at least once. For example, at one point when I first got the car my passenger airbag light kept coming on. I was like "crap, somethings broken already!". It sent me a little message that said "your passenger airbag has been disabled. Please ensure no heavy items are placed on the passenger seat or this will deactivate the airbag". Sure enough I had my 15 pound laptop bag on the seat and everything was completely fine.
