8w0-4 on stock amp

Hello all. I have recently aquired my 07 TL and like may of you, not satisfied with the stock setup. This is my first post so please don't rake me over the coals if already covered (I did search). I am changing the stock speakers to Infinity Ref all around (cc, fronts, rears). I am going to run off stock amp. I do not want to add external amp at this point. I know it would sound better if I added external amp, but I don't care. I have done this many times in other vehicles I have owned. It will def be an improvement. What I am wondering is if someone has done this and could chime in if they are happy with it or not. I have recently changed cc with Infinity Ref 3032cf (def improvement).

I am thinking of swapping stock sub out for a JL 8w0-4. I think stock amp is 2ohm for sub and approx. 30-40 watts???? I know this won't be exceptional and I am planning on adding a JL 12w3v3 w/ a Infinity Ref 610a that I already have sometime down the line. I just want to make a small improvement to the sub for now till ready to do full sub install. I don't think amp would blow or overheat too much with that setup. Any input appreciated....

Well its nice to see that you patiently waited an year after one post lol if you were willing to wait a full year before posting #2 above, you might as well have searched for a response, read up, perhaps post in those respective threads, and then come back to re-post in this thread with additional, specific questions.

Going back to your original post, you stated, "I know it would sound better if I added external amp, but I don't care. I have done this many times in other vehicles I have owned. It will def be an improvement" - it seems like you were already set on what you wanted to do ... stick with the stock amp with aftermarket speakers. Numerous people have done this, and if aftermarket amps were not within their budget, they were clearly happy with the little improvement that they had produced. If you're still using your stock amp, I would recommend going aftermarket amps and processor along with an active set up on your front components.

Hope this response is up to your standards

Wow, he waited a full year to bump his own thread. Impressive. A drop in Sub, won't really do much and I have no idea if the JL will even do free air. Sending too little power to a speaker is much more likely to blow the speaker. Too much distortion. I know Earthquake makes shallow mount subs designed to replace stock subs in the BMW 3-series, they aren't very expensive, but I don't have experience with them yet.
