I dont see a point of putting a comp in, if ur doing it. If you are, make sure to put in a Wifi antenna so u can get on the net.

wouldnt it be easier to get a laptop and hooking it to the navi...if that can be done.

As of now, I don't think anyone has found a way to direct link a laptop into the NAV... I think what nuresh did was replace the stock non-nav location with a touch screen for the carputer allowing him to have nav, dvd, and all the other stuff on a comp... Not a bad way to do it if you are looking for a non-nav to nav conversion...

You can even see where he went one step further and relocated the non-nav stock display down into the area of the storage trays....

nuresh - whos install thread did you follow?

Looks like he had a non-nav TL. He relocated the stock a/c and stereo screens to the bottom where the pockets are. He must be modding the lcd screen to be a pc screen. Notice no joystick under the lcd. SO its not a nav mod it’s a carputer running on a lcd to make it look like a nav screen. Nice job so far.

(written while waiting for food in my car)

^^ internet is via a gprs modem (cell phone).

i got the idea form mp3car.com.This is my 4th install (04 g35, 04 suburban z71, 05 gto, 05 acura tl) so I know what I am doing. If you need help just ask. I will be posting some good pics soon. If you are in Houston and want to do it I could get you good price for the wide lcd and fabrication.

if you think a navi is better

So all you people who regret not getting a factory navi now you have a far better alternative.

Fine print: - only for people who have basic hardware knowledge and can install a operating system without carping their pants.

How much did you spend to get the computer inside your car? Can this be reversed later on to stock if say I wanted to sell the car or something? Thanks.

I should be in Houston within the next two weeks and probably taking my TL down there. Can you tell me where to get the parts or what website to go to? I appreciate your help.

Nice work.

I've been debating over installing a new carpc in my TL for awhile. I had one in my last car (Infiniti Qx4 ) with all the typical features. But when I bought my TL, I was blown away by the stock TL Navi system and had to have it.

The only thing I really miss about my carpc was the mp3 support. It made it so easy to navigate your entire mp3 collection. I've settled for the USA Spec Ipod adapter for now, but I still get the itch to build a new carpc for this reason. I bought a Nav TV adapter to start experimenting with the idea again this summer. We'll see where it goes.

Can you do this to a car that already has Navi? If so can you also go back to stock if needed?

the computer is put into hibernate when the car is off. My friend installed a carputer into his S4, it's so nice. Has a wireless keyboard and everything for when you wanna go online.

The things you need to buy is a M2-ATX PSU form the net is form digitalww.com I bought it for $80 you need P4-12V to P4-12V cable. The thing you need to buy for local store (fry’s (outpost.com) and directron(.com)) are:
P4 or Celeron d (recommended) with mother board
Ram (I bought 1gb)
Hdd (I bought 200gb sata @ 89)
Gps receiver (bu-353 very good. Just Google it)
Cut in to xm for auxiliary in
If you or some one you know goes to a university you could get a copy of win xp for about 10$ or you can get it for free form you work.

For those who want to do it the oem navi you need to use a mother board with TV-out (via mini itx) <1ghz. And get the thing the you can use to display DVD videos on the oem screen. I did a similar install on a suv with oem dvd the quality sucked.

The oem navi boots faster the the pc because it is small footprint computer and it stays on all the time like your radio. I don’t mind waiting about 20-30 seconds while my pc resumes form hibernation.

Or you can use the DSATX power supply and power a real PC like one based on the new Core 2 Duo..
