2x10"s or 1x12"?

Just found out I need to replace my subs in my car. After 5+ years one has finally died I guess. I had two rockford 10" subs rated at 400rms each.

I'm probably gonna replace it with 2 more rockford 10" or maybe 2 mtx 10" speakers however I'm also thinking of going with one 12" speaker that will match with the amp.

What do you guys think? Should I keep the 2 10" speakers or go with 1 12"?

seeing as how you already have a box set up and every thing else wired up for 2 10s and that is what you are used to i say roll with 2 10 seems more convient

i say go with 2 10's rockford since you already have a box for them.

if you do decide to go with the one 12 i say get JL. i have 3 10's JL about 4 yrs old and they still pound.

Thanks for the input guys....

The installer was wrong.. he was saying that my speaker was blown because it was giving out 1ohm at the terminal.

After taking it home I opened it up and went through the wiring and saw that the idiots at the last car audio shop wired it up wrong and set it to 1ohm on an amp that can't run that low. My amp can do 2ohm and 4ohm. The joke is that they were saying how the box was all wired up wrong and they were fixing it. They could have blown my amp.

I rewired everything to 4ohm (cuz I can't get a 2ohm load with the speaker configuration) and put it in an everything is sounding so nice! I'm loving it again.

However my friend has a box with 2 rockford 12's that are the equivalent power to my 10s and wired at 2ohm. I'm gonna throw his box in my car and give it a try and see if its worth the price to upgrade.

It will be nice to have a real world test to compare.

Depends on the type of music, I listen to a lot of hiphop, and I foudn that one 12 sounded better than 3 10's.
