This is inspiring. great job !!
Please could you explain how to configure the tablet to go into deep sleep when the incoming power turns off ? I cannot seem to find this option in Power Event Manager

Does PEM also stop the tablet from turning the screen off when there is no input for a while ? I know that I need to disable lock screen, but under display settings, I cannot disable screen off

I have my screen-timeout set to max which is 30 min I believe so after 30 mins of no user input, the screen will remain on but be dim.

Thanks Sockr1 for this step by step guide on how to install Nexus 7 tablets in our Acura TL's. I've been dreading the black screen of death on my navigation in my 2004 Acura TL for a couple years now and finally took on this project in July. I bought everything on the list from Amazon and received within a few days at my door (thanks Amazon Prime 2-day shipping). After loading the kernel onto the Nexus 7, install took only a couple hours. Everything works great except the reverse camera.
Looks like several others are having the same issue with the latest Easycap Viewer software. I tested the back up camera and relay with a regular TV monitor and so I know this works correctly. Also tried to get the older Easycap viewer software however it doesn't look like this is available since everything defaults to the latest software version for download.
Appreciate if anyone finds the solution for the reverse camera with the newest Easycap software to post in this thread.

I have the latest Easycap viewer on my setup and no problems at all, so I don't think that's the problem.
I don't think it is mentioned in the DIY but Easycap itself needs to be setup properly.
What seems to be the problem for you? When you go in reverse Easycap doesn't automatically open?
Or is it that Easycap opens but there's no image/scrambled image?
If the latter, change the setting from PAL to NTSC. I think you tap while easycap is open to show the menu and then click settings on the top right.
For me it was set default as PAL. After I changed that setting I was getting an image.

Yes, you will need iSimple or something similar.

Okay I basically want a basic tablet setup no back up camera just audio! Will I On the future be able to set up aftmarket amplifier and subwoofers? With just having tablet installed or do I need to install a aftermarket face off radio also?

Trying to do this now, but noticed the EasyCap linked to in the tutorial is sold out. Is it fine to just buy any EasyCap off eBay that looks similar?

Haha thanks man, small world! Picked up a 08 TL-S in CBP this weekend, looking forward to making some changes. And alright awesome, I'll pick one and hope for the best. Will post back here if whatever one I buy works or not to save people the trouble.

It really comes down to personal preference and convenience. I put my relay in the trunk with the easy cap and the backup camera. I had a really long Usb3.0 extension cable, so I cut up and installed the relay on the short USB that the easy cap came with and the ran the long extension to the center console with the USB hub.
I feel I get better video signal and quality this way vs running the Yellow RCA cable (which came with my backup camera). But this could just be my imagination lol.

Timur availability
Thanks for the quick replies!!
Is Timur’s kernel only available through that Reddit link? Just wondering because that reddit page seems hard to navigate and I don’t wanna download the wrong thing. Lol

Thanks for the link!
Has anyone successfully figured out how to integrate the steering wheel controls? I saw that someone used an isimple. I know of the Joycon too but I don't know if its compatible.
Thanks!!

So long shot here guys, but today my nexus isn't turning on. Checked all wires, it's still getting power, but seems to just be stuck asleep. Anyway of getting it back on without ripping all this stuff out again?
#158
Do you have access to the power button? If so just hold it until something happens.
Try double tapping on the screen, cycling power couple times, etc. Otherwise get to the power button.

The bench is held by one bolt along the back wall, and two clips where the cusion meets the carpet.

My solution to Nexus battery drains...
TL; DR version:
My solution was to install a relay on the USB cable between the Nexus 7 and the hub, specifically the red 5 volt power wire. The relay is powered whenever the vehicle power is switched on, and immediately cuts the connection when the key is switched off. The relay is tucked under the center vents, right above the tablet, so it's easy to reach if I ever need to replace it with a new one.
The backstory:
I've often started my car to find the Nexus battery power level diminished substantially compared to what Timur promised. No matter what apps I terminated or disabled, it kept happening from time to time.
I've determined that even during sleep mode, my Nexus 7 still sends some power through its USB port.
The power drain was barely noticable when I had only my FiiO audio converter plugged into my USB hub, but when I combined that with my Easycap and my GPS reciever the situation became exacerbated to the point where the Nexus battery was totally drained on several occasions.
I confirmed this by unplugging my USB hub and letting the tablet sleep overnight.
The following day, the power was still 100%.
