Has anyone had an oportunity to examine the 2007 back-up camera system and its adaptability to earlier 3G navi cars?

 

I would say it would work great with any 3G TL. The camera is still just a CCD camera thus wiring would be typical. It could easily be used with Dom's converter etc.. As usual though, the problem would be cost. My guess cost for the 07 TL camera and license plate bezel etc, that houses the camera would run you near $1000...

I have a near exact look of camera housing and mount not to mention angle of view etc. of the 07 TL, yet paid a whopping $180 for the camera and about 3 hours of mod time..

 

it would cost alot, the MDX and RL use a diffrent rom drive for the back-up camer and the same as the new 07 TL-s. The navi rom would have to be changed, the benzel replaced and the camera plus wire harnesses. Then the ROM would require the change of navi-screen to due resolution issues, and it would complain of an error with the satlitte-linked navi.

In short:
over 4k in mods needed.
Easiest way is to use dom's converter along with wendys back-up camera.

 

but is warranty still valid if done with "Acura's" backup camera?

 

Unless Acura states that the new backup camera is backwards compatible to the '04-'06 TL, I think a retrofit even with Acura parts would void the warranty. You would only be worried with warranty if something went wrong.
