2007 TL Audio Finally DONE!!

The stats....
  • FOCAL 165K2P component set up front
  • FOCAL 165CV1 coax's in the rear deck
  • Audio Control LC6i OEM interface
  • FOCAL FP4.75 4 channel amp to front and rear
  • FOCAL FP1.800 monoblock amp to sub
  • FOCAL bass knob hidden in cup holder
  • JL Audio 13TW5 in custom rear deck enclosure
  • Escort SR7plus sensors hidden in front bumper fascia
  • Peripheral iSimple kit to OE radio

The pics....

I was hella excited when this customer told me that he wanted the subwoofer up under the rear deck. I just wish it wasn't a HUGE ASS 13TW5. We could have used a slim 10" sub and made the enclosure virtually invisible. But this guy knows what he wants. He wanted it to bang. It bangs. Shitballs, does it bang!

Thank you for the compliments but I'm not new to this party. The amps have been under the floor for 6 months and don't overheat. Under the floor is my favorite spot. I've been doing that for years and not had an amp overheat. In some extreme cases I've used fans.

Also, I rarely use Dynamat on Acura cars. I've seldom ran into rattles. The only rattle in this TL is the sunroof bezel. We started this TL in February. Been waiting for the 13TW5 and grill to get it finished.

The new shop is huge and we try to keep it spotless and tidy. We can park two cars in the woodshop with plenty of working room. Of course we don't because the shop is big enough.

It's good now. I have a PM limit of 1000 messages. I clean out my boxes about every week. This week has been nuts with PM's.

Yeah, this guy dropped some lute in this car. One of the best sounding audio systems I've done though.

factory head unit?

I had a pair of focals in my 04 with JL amps and subs, it sounded awesome. I would imagine those K2Ps kick.

Indeed, the K2P's are monsters. Tons of midbass. We are using the factory headunit for now. We did a Pioneer nav unit in his last car. We'll probably end up doing the same in this one as well.

PM sent. I will probably make a 10" version of this same enclosure to show how slim it can be versus the monster 13TW5 in this TL. There is enough of a footprint to allow for two subs.

A subwoofer firing into the cabin of the car sounds like donkey pooh. Cone noise and distortion. Also, you would never hear the mature bass note unless you were standing outside of the car.

Excellent work. As far as overall sound, do you think you can compete with Biggs bandpass design?

Totally different sound. It's not comparable at all.

How is the subwoofer enclosure held in place?

Is the enclosure built to specs?

The box/sub combo must weigh around 25 to 30 pounds.

An interesting solution. Props for thinking outside the box.

Thank you!

The enclosure weighs 6.5 lbs but the woofer is almost 20 lbs. It's held in place with 4 bolts. The enclosure is built to exact recommened volume of .80 cu/ft.

Thank you! This setup worked great and sounds damn nice. I'm looking forward to using a smaller sub next time.

I will include this enclosure in my Sponsored Sale thread. It will run about $300. Built to spec and finished with trunk matched carpet.

This would be an ideal solution for me, the trunk tends to hold lots of crap all time, and smaller one would be great. Nice job. How long before you get a smaller one for 2 ten's built?

Would you make something similar for an IB set up? How much would an IB for an IDMAX 10"?

Thanks for the quick answers. Do you have any detail pics of how it is mounted to the underside of the deck?

Is there any concerned about the use of a heavier sub in this configuration or will these be made only for the thin type subs?

blokhead - It'll be a couple weeks before we attempt two subwoofers. I know two 8" subs will work perfect but two 10's might push the air space bigger than I want to go.

JerZDevil- This idea was designed around slim or shallow mount subwoofers. Using a full depth subwoofer is not an option for this particular enclosure type.

King of Pain- I don't have any pics of mounting. I would not advise using a subwoofer over 35 lbs back there.

Sub is freaking cool.

Did you tap the pre-factory amp wires with the LC6?

No, nothing needs to be rewired if you're just replacing speakers.

The twin 10" under-deck enclosure is about done. It looks sick! The subs sit back further toward the seat back and drop down two inches less than the one pictured in the first post. Pictures soon.
