2007 or 2008 screen in 2006 TL

So, Im a new to me TL owner of about 4 months. I love the car and am glad to say im an acura owner. Hopefully I dont have any of the infamous issues to make me think otherwise.

SO, question at hand. The following thread mentioned the possibility of swapping the radio screen in an 04-06 with the screen from an 07-08.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/will-2007-acura-tl-radio-display-work-2005-tl-817700/

I bought an 07-08 screen and can definitively tell you all that this is not plug and play, sorry if you all already know this. The knew screen has more wires and a larger connecor. Has anyone attempted any sort of hack swap? I am contemplating trying to cut and splice wires to get the new screen to work minus the compass functionality.

The second option I am considering, is removing the actual screen from each unit and swapping the "guts" from my '06 unit with the guts of the '07 unit. I think this could be done to where the display screen is just placed behind the cover screen on the '07 screen chassis. THis would essentially a "cover" over my display.

Just thinking out loud here. Anyone have any insight before I start hacking?

You might as well just buy the Nav drive that goes with the 2007-2008 as well and just upgrade your entire nav system so you can support the white discs. They have better graphics and I believe you can also do some extra features with the HFL with them.

I was not able to figure out how to get the new screen to interface with my 2006 TL. Connectors are definitley different, as are the wiring colors so a simple splice cannot be accomplished by matching like wires. If you have a good manual or know how, it is feasible that you could extract the contacts from the stock plug and swap them to appropriate locations on the new plug. This would only work if the signals required to run each screen were the same.

Bottom line, this may be possible, but it would be extremely difficult. Operation swap my screen has ended in defeat.

There is a LOT more than just swapping displays. But as you found, the 04-06 is different than 07-08.

Any progress on this? or did you end up selling your 07/08 screen?

I'm thinking of doing this same thing to my center radio/hvac screen (I have a 2006 non-navi too). I found a manual for the wiring on the 06, but I haven't found the wiring diagram for the 07 yet. I've found the compass module (78300-SEP-A01), but I don't know how it connects up..
