2006 Acura Stock Sub Replacement
I am looking to replace my stock sub as it is blown. The specs of the stock sub would be greatly appreciated, that includes precise sizing and such. Or an actual sub recommendation.

Its an 8" sub... Not much depth for a larger aftermarket unless willing to cut some metal to make a hole behind the sub bigger. If you could find an image dynamics 8" dual 2 ohm (wired to 1 ohm) that would probably work pretty well on stock amp.

Thats what i am using right now too. Sounds a lot better if you deaden the rear deck... I have mine seated on a layer of sound dampener in addition to the rear deck treatment.... Sounds deeper and with better integration. Do the doors too!

What's the rear deck treatment? My car rattles on certain bass frequencies...annoying

Do you know how you would wire this? And which model would be a free air sub?

As far as sound deadening the rear deck and doors, I would look at getting a pack of Stinger Roadkill for about $90 on Amazon. I believe it contains 36 sq ft of deadener for that price. You basically just want to get good coverage on any areas prone to rattle. The rear deck metal and the rear deck panel itself are highly prone. I need to go back and do my rear deck panel because at higher levels of bass it will rattle. I also have done my doors with the CLD deadener (Stinger Roadkill). Also in my front doors is a layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) to help seal the doors and increase midbass. I did it with the stock speakers in and it increased midbass by almost double, honestly. If I play my aftermarket 6.5" speakers playing down to even 80Hz, I get almost as much bass as the stock system provides. I'm running a 3-way set-up up front and a single 12" sub in the rear, with a Pioneer 80PRS HU, and MiniDSP doing all the processing.
If you want to go with an aftermarket sub, I'd honestly skip putting it in the rear deck, but it really depends what your goals are. Running a sub Infinite Baffle is not going to replicate high levels of bass. If you want more bass, then I would put the sub in a properly tuned and spec'd ported box. For slightly higher levels of bass than stock, you can run it IB in the rear deck, but you'll want an aftermarket amp to power it, IMO. IB set-ups do not require a large amount of power to the sub, but the stock amp honestly just isn't that great and you'll get better performance and sound out of a quality aftermarket amp. Installing a single mono amp is not terribly difficult. There are DIY's on the forum if you want to tackle it yourself.
Inferno - ID subs are good in IB. A lot of people on the DIYMA forums run them, either IB or in a box. They are great SQ subs.
I'm honestly not the best to speak on retaining the stock amp in any capacity because I have completely bypassed it with my set-up. I did not want to hack up the factory wires and I also did not want to retain my factory HU because it was easier for me to get better SQ by just removing it. Plus, with my HU, I am not limited on how I want to play music in my car. I have BT phone capabilites with my HU and can plug my iPhone in via USB, play music, and charge at the same time. I'm still working on my build, but I plan to get some pictures and a progress thread up soon.

Audio Mobile makes an 8 inch shallow mount sub that fits our rear deck to a T. Phenomenal products Elite Series | Audiomobile
Link is at the end. You can also go a different route and get a custom box made and put it in the trunk. Myself I have an 8 inch shallow and will be running a 12 inch in a custom enclosure for the trunk

how do you like the elite series sub?
is it a noticeable bass improvement over stock sub?
the link you posted didn't work......here's a link: (please confirm if this is the sub you are referencing) Elite Series | Audiomobile
also, this is completely plug and play, and stock amp should power it just fine correct?

Yes you have the right link. It worked when I loaded it. The model is the first one 2208 it can work with OEM setup yes I recommend using a sub amp to be able to power it properly your talking like 35-45 watts vs 800 big difference. I love it the sub

okay thanks for the response. some bits are a bit unclear...
but I think I know what your saying............correct me if im wrong.
the model is 2208, the sub WILL work with OEM amp, but you recommend buying an aftermarket amp to properly power the sub as it is a big difference.
and the sub is completely plug and play, simply disconnect old one, and put the 2208 one in
correct?

the 2208 is not plug in play will will have splice some wires but its very easy. I did my research and determined that the 2208 was the best replacement for the oem. You can run the sub off the oem amp but i reccommend that you that you buy another amp for the sub so that you get the cost out of it just my 2 cents
