1st Post, New Audio w/ Pics

Well, just upgraded my audio system…component list is as follows:

Amps Go to www.zapco.com for specs.
• Zapco Reference DCS 500.1 Bass
• Zapco Reference DCS 360.4 Mid’s/Highs

Speakers
• Zapco Competition Series CK-16.2 Front and Rear
• Zapco Sound Quality RB Series R10B Sub

Other
• iPod Music Link
• Hardwired Phone Charger
• Concealed Radar/Laser Blocker

I’m not an audiophile…but the SQ of this system is awesome to my ears. From Bach to Eminem… it produces crystal clear tones through-out the range, high to low. I don’t have the system completely dialed in yet, but it is cool hooking it up to the laptop and playing around with output and EQ.

Here are a bunch of pics of the install and final product. I had a local company Pacific Audio in Chico, CA hook-up the system for me…overall they did a good job, had a couple of gliches, but they took care of them without question.

One of these days I will take out the back seat and take pics of the rear deck, the amps, crossovers, and miles of cable. Here’s what I have for now…hope you like it…I do!!

Welcome to the forums. Nice setup, also like you idea of the radar dector, but where is the rest of it located? Also as for the hardwired phone charger, what if you change you phone for a samsung or motorola phone with a diffrent plug? BTW, that color combo is nice

Most of the radar detector/laser blocker electronics are in the front grill and bumper area. There is also a unit in the rear license plate area. Unless you are looking for it, you would never know.

They drilled out the area under the Acura emblem and installed the detection unit behind it…the picture doesn’t show it all that well.

As far as the phone charger, yeah I thought about that…but didn’t like the cable hanging all over. If/when I change phones I will change out the charger if necessary.

Ok, anyway, As for your component locations, did you stick with the stock tweeter locations? If so, did you notice any phasing or imaging issues? Like problems with the tweeter being too far from the mid or timing problems with the tweeter reflecting off the windshield? I'm about to do my install in the next couple weeks and this is my biggest fear with dash mounted tweeters.

Sweet Mother of God. If I saw my car disemboweled like that I'd probably go throw myself in front of a bus.

Yes, if you were to look at the car, and if you didn't know better, everything looks completely stock. I could take pictures, but it looks like all other TL's. Used all stock locations, the Zampco amps have a Digital Control System. So, once everything was installed, we hooked it up to a laptop, using their "Digital Programming Network" and were able to make numberous adjustments: gain, input mode, crossover mode, Q-Bass Eq, Bass Gain, and Time Delay. It is a real cool system. It came out of the box with real strong bass...we dialed that back a little and bumped up the mid's and highs. The flexibility of the amps is awesome.

Whoa! That's a pretty serious tear-down! It's good to know they are a good shop, though. My in-laws live in Chico, so I'm up there pretty often. From your last shot, it looks like you might live near my brother-in-law's old neighborhood (near Bidwell).

Welcome to the forums!

More towards Hooker Oak..although Chico's small, so you can get almost anywhere in 15 minutes. Coming from the Bay Area...this is a small town.

Haven't had any comments about the Zapco set-up, anyone else have it or heard of it?

Some dealers don't know what they're talking about. I believe it can be installed in all 3G TLs.

That's what I was thinking. Because I just bought the car on Monday and was going ot have them do it, but I guess not.

Does anyone know what parts you would need for it to be installed in an 04TL w/nav?

I just say this message in another post

@cullal:

I was at BAIERL Acura and spoke with the parts manager and the service manager there. The have the iPod Kits in Stock.

They also told me that the iPod Music Link is NOT compatible with the 04 and 05 TL's and will work with only the 06 onwards. The reason being that the wiring harnesses in the 06 is diferent from the 04 and 05. This was also confirmed to them by their Acura Rep. The parts manager also gave me the list price of the iPod music link to be $175 + taxes and about 2 1/2 hours labor to install...

...would it be possible to upgrade the harness in the 04/05?

You should do some searching in this forum for alternative ways of connecting the iPod. It seems some folks think the Acura solution is overpriced and undercapable compared to the offerings from companies like USASpec.

Yes, the amps are above the sub..I'll take out the back seat this weekend, take a pic, and post it...it is pretty amazing. All the cross-overs, etc...are on the rear deck and behind the seat.

Well, I have the iPod Music Link w/ my '05...works great!!! No problems at all...didn't have to make any modifications to harness. Don't remember the cost...had it installed as part of the entire audio system install.

I would hate to buy the link and then have it not work. I'm not too fond of the other ways of hooking the iPod up at this moment in time.
