1st Bluetooth - any advice

I have a 2004 TL and plan on getting my 1st bluetooth phone. I'm in Nasville and have a 2 year contract with Verizon, so that limits my choice of carrier.

Given that, any particularly good phones to consider, or particulary bad ones to stay clear of?

Thanks for any advice.

Joe

I have the Samsung ACH-930. It works but, does not show signal or battery strength. Also makes a double popping noise when it dials out. Works fine otherwise though.

My wife and I both have the LG 8300 and we love it. Fully compatible with the TL (and her Parrot 3100 that's installed in her Honda Pilot), and the phones battery last a week between charges!

Can't go wrong with any Motorola phone. The Razr, Krzr, Q, v325i. Also check out http://www.handsfreelink.com/find/index.htm to make sure the phone is compatable!

The RAZR is *terrible* when it comes to Bluetooth. The signal is much weaker than other phones. I have a brand new RAZR with the latest software, and I frequently would get a lot of static from the connection (similar problem with headsets as well).

My Motorola 815 links quickly and has good sound quality, but I have had to have three phones replaced because of bluetooth problems with headsets.

Verizon has told me that the Samsung A930 phone has similar features to my Motorola with good Bluetooth as well.

Well your the first person to say that. I have personally had the v3c, v3m, krzr and currently have the Treo 700p. The razr v3m was by far the best phone when it comes to bluetooth. Just because the razr was new doesn't mean there wasn't something wrong with it.

Your mileage obviously varied... I actually was at the Verizon store tonight to get a handset swapped out, and in my conversations about what handsets work best for bluetooth the topic of the poor signal quality came up (in regard to the RAZR and KRZR). The tech chuckled a little and said "like I haven't heard that before". It's actually quite common to have a weaker signal on the RAZR/KRZR handsets - they're completely "lobotomized" by Verizon (running the VZW proprietary software that all of the phones have now), and this software interferes with functionality at many different levels.

While my "new" one could have been broken, it's also possible that your handset had a version of the software that actually worked better.

Of course, based on the model numbers you posted, it's possible you don't have Verizon Wireless. Most times, the carrier has no bearing on some features. However, in the case of VZW, it absolutely does.

Well if you knew about verizon phones, those are the three verizon razrs. Verizon's interface has nothing to do with the bluetooth hardware or operations of the bluetooth. Verisons UI runs on top of standard motorola software. I've used the v3c and the v3m with both verizons firmware and alltels firmware, and they both performed the same.

I think your alittle confused.
