Its not that cheap.. I still think I would go with AV Electronic unit. You still need to buy a AV switcher. The AV Electronic unit already has 4 AUX outputs incorporated into the unit.
Yeah $100 for a plug. That is crazy. I can see $25 or $50.

Please dont froget that sokolov's unit has better quality than avelectronics you dont need a switcher just buy an icon dvd with three video inputs it only cost 130 shipped on ebay and I have all the sources wired through it. Plus sokolov's plugs are actuall Acura plugs which he said costed about 50 dollars for each just in lawyers fees to get premision from Acura and dont forget if enough people buy its only 50 dollars more.

No, you can't get 5.1 surround cuz there's no way to get a 5.1 audio feed into the head unit. Well, unless you were to take it apart and find where the signal gets fed into each preamp, but that would be insane.
Best that can be done now is a 2.0 audio feed using a Blitzsafe adapter, but it means some fancy wiring to include XM (if you're in the US).
Sokolov's unit gives you 1 video in and plays that video on your Navi screen. That's all it does. To add more sources or more outputs, you need an AV switcher. I bought the one he sells and it works perfectly. It even has 4 switched 12V power outlets to power the headrest LCDs or whatever else.

No, there are other ways to get sound. You can use an FM modulator, or a powered FM modulator. That works by broadcasting the sound onto a selectable FM frequency. It's not quite as good sound as with a direct AUX connection but it's a good choice for people in the US because the install isn't that complicated. If I were in the US, I would probably do the Blitzsafe thing. In Canada, Blitzsafe is a no-brainer. I have a feeling that the next generation of our head unit will have a very easy (probably RCA) AUX-in.
