08 TL adding Sirius?

Love the car - hate the radio. Can anyone help a non-technical person understand who, how, what I need to do to get Sirius installed the cleanest way possible? I know I can just put the FM modulator unit in and add an antenae - but there has to be a better way?
Thanks,
Pete

A few months ago XM and Sirius announced that they were trying to merge. It just needs to be approved by the FCC, so you might want to hold on adding equipment to your new car.

I believe it goes through Justice Dept. - but either way, Sirius has Howard Stern - and the process has already taken so long most do not believe it will be approved.

Vais Tech is developing an interface for Honda/Acura. It was supposed to be released this month but has been delayed. They're apparently working on an ipod interface and need to finish it first.

Its not like XM/sirus radio quality will be degraded by going through a FM modulator. Why not just go the easy route?

I'd much rather have everything show up in the factory display than have an extra controller.

It's going to cost $270 like their Toyota kits, and it's not going to do anything special - I'll stick to the $99 Directed kit.

i swapped xm for sirius and los some functionality in HU such as no more acura link and no more cellphone phonebook. to me it's worth it because i have been with sirius a long time so when i heard xm in my new TL it was like going back to fm

BTW i used the Directed HON-SC1 Interface with the universal sirius receiver which feeds into the sat input to the nav/hu so i still use the nav/hu to control the sat radio.

So has this taken effect yet or is it on the horizon soon? I plan on buying a 08 TL w/Nav very soon, what will this mean for the TL's? Will it just simply change to sirius?

The merger is already complete.

October 6th has been widely reported as the date that Sirius XM will begin offering what is called the "best of" packages that gives subscribers of each service the best stations on the other service.

Here are some details.

http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/be...ctobe-6th.html

It will be further along, likely next year, when radios are sold that get signals from both satellite services.
