Does anyone know if the clock assembly out of an 08 with navigation above the screen will work in an 05 with navigation ? I know they have different part #'s but i don't know what the difference is.
Hey, great question. I'm pretty confident that you cannot just swap them over. The plug connectors on the back are different as seen in these two pictures:
Part numbers for each TL category are as follows:
*2004-06 Base (39710-SEP-A41) *2007-08 Type-S (39710-SEP-A61)
*2007-08 Base (39710-SEP-A71)
The only reason I know this is because I just threw away a 2004-06 screen that I purchased from LKQ quite some time ago. I needed the plastic screen cover for a nexus 7 retro fit I'm still working through.

Why are you using an '08 clock module in the 1st place? What does it have that the '04/5/6 module doesn't? There are some things between '04/5/6 and '07/8 that are plug-compatible, and some things that aren't, that is, unless you're game for changing wiring harnesses. So far, I've discovered the XM and Bluetooth modules are on the NOT list, while the Navigation DVD drive IS plug-compatible! You have to do a whole rewiring thing to use an '07/8 radio in an '04/5/6 as the connectors are different, especially for the antenna. The '07/8 Nav screen is plug-compatible with the '04/5/6 with the addition of an adaptor.
I know, we '04/5/6 owners try to make our cars into an '07/8, but there's only so much that can be done. My '04 has most of that stuff already; daytime running lights, backup camera, the '07/8 side mirrors, and the '07/8 Navigation system - as close as I could get to '07/8. At this point, I consider my car to be an '04/7 Type-S.
