I am new to this forum and am trying to figure out what the best way/combination of devices that i will need to hook up my ipod and dvd player to my factory navi with xm. I would like to be able to charge/control my ipod thru the navi and play dvds while driving. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks in advance

 

navtv and ipod hook does not affect each other so you can install both just fine. i alrdy have a dvd player on mine and will maybe do an ipod hookup down the road

 

Search for iSimple, nav2go, usa spec or just browse the forum for a week or so and all of this will come up.

There are also some nice threads on this stuff in the 3G garage.

 

Thanks, i have tried reading older threads but there are sooooo many different devices and solutions. I was curious as to which one was the newest and best.

They are all hacks and all kinda suck a bit in one way or another. The iPod adapters use the stock radio buttons, so they are not intuitive and take a little bit to learn. The stock screen is only 256 colors and not even close to HD (heck, it is not even standard D).

I do like my iSimple, but if you are expecting some intuitive solution that you can be a pro on in a few minutes, then they don't exist.

You won't be able to control your iPod through the navi with an iSimple. I think that the USA spec is close to the same, in most ways. It uses the 5 and 6 buttons as well as the tuner knob. You can use the navi screen and hit the 5 and 6 button, but it is not like browsing through a GUI... it looks like the radio screen on the navi with 6 presets.

Doesn't your 2007 have a aux in for the iPod?

 

yeah it does but i am going to be adding some screens and want to be able to player video off my ipod/iphone (coming next month), plus i want to charge my ipod without having a ton of cables exposed

 

^theres already stuff that does all of what youre speaking about.

check out jptl04's audio build he has 4 screens including his nav screen.
ipod video plays on all 4 screens.
and even has an integrated ipod charging dock.

so unless you find a better solution, stick to what works.
