Well, the problem is the drive. It caused the scratch in the disc. Now, you need a new disc and to repair the drive...otherwise it will scratch the next disc you put in. Follow the instructions above to send it in for repair.

There is a TSB on this problem with the drive scratching the Navi DVD.

If you are still in warranty or are just out of it and have had all your services done at an Acura dealer, go to the dealer first to see about covering repair/replacement of the drive.

Contact Alpine only if the dealership won't cover your Navi drive.

Welcome to AZ.

I've been seeing this error a couple of times a week for the past month when I first start up my 06 TL. The error will go away after about 30 seconds and Nav functions don't seem to be effected. I haven't had a chance to check the condition of the disk yet.

So I had this same error happen. I can't say enough good things about alpine and having this fix done. I am in ky and shipped this unit out last Friday (one wk ago today) so it didn't get there until Monday and when I got home from work today it was on my doorstep. Put it in and enter code and it's all good. One wk turn around time and that includes shipping both ways from Cali to Kentucky? Wow. Also they gave me a new disc.

Wow, that's a huge jump! Maybe they got sick of fixing all of them. lol Glad I'm changing cars in the next couple months so I won't have to go through this again.

Update... I took a air compressor and a blow gun and blew out the disc drive for probably a good 30 seconds, used buffing compound and buffed the outter ring where it was scratched and its been working since (4 days now)

Thanks to the info in this thread, I removed the Nav drive in my 2005 TL, sent it off to Alpine, got it back 1 week after they received it, and put it back in the car just now. It works fine, and I'm really pleased with Alpine's very quick service.

Their charge is still $358. Not cheap, but far preferable to buying a new or used unit. Based on the paperwork, it looks like they replaced the entire DVD drive mechanism.

Getting the trunk liner out of the way was quite easy. Unplugging the five connectors in the back of the Nav unit was quite a nuisance. I found it was helpful to remove the mounting bracket, which allowed much better access to the back of the drive. All five have release tabs that you push in toward the connector to allow release. Even so, the two black connectors were really stuck in there.

Putting everything back was a breeze--just don't overtighten the screws that hold the bracket to the floor of the trunk floor. They go into a flimsy plastic receptacle.

Incidentally, when the Nav unit started up, it thought it was still in Torrance, CA! A quick drive around the block got it back on track.

reviving an old thread. Jut bought my 07 TL type-s and getting intermittent Disc read errors. Took the disc out and no wear/looks new.

I did buy the extended warranty since I can cancel it at any time but for the next few weeks I'm going to watch intently and might just pay for itself with this issue?

The disc is is marked 2009 so I'm assuming previous owner didnt update since then? It doesn't even recognize my subdivision which was new in 2006. Would the new 2014 Disc likely have the new streets/info? And should I buy the new disc or wait to see if the Drive is FUBAR and get it all replaced at the same time?

Thanks!

Its doing it again

I had this exact issue about 1 year ago and sent in the DVD player to get fixed in CA. It came back pretty much new. Except now it's doing the same thing. I have inspected the disc, and this time, the DVD is in perfect condition. Anyone else have this re occurring issue? I've put about 20K miles since it was last fixed. Can i expect this to happen every year?
