the base TL comes with a 5 spoke or maybe its 4? and the type-s steering wheel has three spokes.
I think the steering wheel is also a bit thicker than the base.... thicker wheel provides better feeling

The 04-06 TL's came with a 4 spoke wheel, the 07-08 TL's came with a 3 spoke wheel. The Type-S steering wheel has the emblem, and if it's auto, it has paddle shifters. Also, the Type-S has red lighting and the trim is a darker silver as opposed to a lighter silver.
Bumping an old thread here because I just purchased a Type-S gauge cluster bezel...
I was originally going to cut holes in the bezel for the MID control buttons. However, after seeing this thread, it appears that I could swap my 05 steering wheel for a 07-08 steering wheel and use those steering wheel controls if I splice the wiring. This is great news. If only I could find an 07-08 airbag for a reasonable price....
Last question - My 2005 steering wheel did not come equipped with the voice command buttons. I haven't found an exact answer on this topic, but are voice command features only applicable with navi models?
bump. followed the pins but my radio-mode button and bluetooth buttons aren't working.
tapped the mid controls and those aren't responsive either.
I did have an issue with half the connector not closing all the way (it closed maybe 80%) but the pins did go all the way through. I "merged" black 501by splicing and tapping into blue/white 501. Was that where I went wrong? Hmn.... Gotta tear it all apart tomorrow and figure it out.
So I did the Type S cluster swap as well as the 07 non navi swap on my 06 base. I kinda wanna attempt to do this next since I found a cheap 07 steering wheel online and all the parts are sub $200. All I need is the steering wheel, airbag, and clock spring, correct? And it's most plug n play? I'm a little bit confused by the pin layout in the first post. Is it the same thing as rewiring the blue harness on the 07 non navi swap or do I have to tap into wires?

which red wire for the paddle shifters because there is a red and red-black.
I have a 2005 TL and am attempting to install a Type-S steering wheel with paddle shifters, but am having problems so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
Instead of soldering and splicing tons of wires, I created a custom wiring harness with the following items:
- A spare female plug from a disassembled 2005 clock spring (my OEM 2005 wiring harness will plug into this end)
- A spare pig tail from a 2007 Type-S wiring harness inside the dash (This will plug into a 2007-08 clock spring)
- 3 wire connectors which are meant to plug into the wire taps for the Select/Reset, Info Next, and Info Previous buttons
- 2 wire connectors which are meant to plug into the wire taps for the Upshift and Downshift feature
Here is the wiring diagram I drafted. I can't figure out what I did wrong.
The buttons are all illuminated and the audio controls all work. However, the cruise button only works sometimes, the paddle upshift sometimes engages the cruise control, the paddle downshift does not work, the info buttons do not work, and select/reset button does not work.
*In my diagram* Pins 11 and 12 were actually switched. The light pink wire (G501) from inside my original steering wheel is actually black within my OEM wiring harness and the pins flip flop. Updated diagram below:

All of the buttons seem to work when pressed, including the paddle shifters. I didn't put the airbag on yet because I'm going to solder some new LEDs behind the buttons, so hopefully the check engine light goes away after that's installed. I would presume the missing airbag is the reason for the check engine light? There is no blinking D, which is great.
Additionally, the cruise toggle button is working, but I cant test the cancel/resume features because I still have it in storage with storage insurance.
I'm Assuming you used the 07-08 TYPE-S Clockspring? What wires did you tap on the automatic shifter? Or better yet can you repost the step by step procedure?
If anyone wants to add a 2007-08 Type-S steering wheel with working paddle shifters to a 2004-06 automatic base model, my retro fit is finally complete. I wanted to simplify the confusion, so please refer to THIS post for final information Please note that you WILL need a 2007-08 clock spring for this to work.
I. Custom Wiring Harness
Instead of re-pinning the wires inside my car, I made a custom wiring harness adapter, which is plug and play and will allow me to resort back to stock if I chose to in the future. Making the custom wiring harness consisted of the following:
A. I found a male end pigtail from a 2007-08 Type-S dash harness (This is the white plug that connects to the back of the clock spring)
B. I found a female end from a 2004-06 Base clock spring. I opened up a clock spring at my local junk yard and dremeled it down in size later so it would fit inside the steering column. The picture below shows the part I'm referring to. The four wires showing are from the airbag wiring harness.
C. Once I had both pieces, I disassembled the clock spring female connector and soldered red wires to the pins.
D. After a lot of research, I developed two conversion charts, which show how the pins need to be relocated.
E. After figuring out the wiring, I created this bulky wiring harness.
F. After finding out that the bulky wiring harness would not fit inside my steering column with enough room for the covers to close, I dremeled off the airbag wire pins and also the boxy corners to make a slimmer harness.
II. Wire Tapping
A. I used T-taps and spade connectors to tap into the wires for the paddle shifters. Please note I had a lot of trouble at first after thinking I was supposed to tap into the ORN wire (You'll see an empty/unused T-tap in my picture below.). I later found out that I needed to tap into the BLU/YEL wire and the BLU/WHT wire.
B. I also used T-taps and spade connectors to tap into the three wires for the Information Up, Information Down, and Select/Reset buttons. I don't have a good quality picture of this, but you'll see the necessary wire taps within my wiring harness to the right just below the gauge cluster.
III. Adding LEDs
A. While I had my steering wheel torn apart, I decided to finish my LAST LED interior conversion. When soldering the LEDs, I completed several test runs, making sure to aim the LEDs just right, so that there weren't any hot or cold spots on the button face.
B. I also found that the lights were not shining nearly as bright as my other LEDs. I believe Acura used stronger resistors within the steering wheel to help eliminate bright lights shining directly into the driver's face. However, they were still a bit too dull for my liking, so I used an X-Acto knife and cut out the thin rubber film covering the holes for where the LEDs shine through.

The conversion chart doesn't match the 07-08 B connector I'm looking at yours and looking mine the wires colors code doesn't match up.. like pin 5 auto shift is blue but you have it black & white? and pin 6 is purple I'm confused??
