'05 TL HandsFreeLink Reset - New OEM?

When I got my TL the hfl was draining the battery and was bad. I replaced it with a used one but has a security code stored. I tried disconnecting the battery and touching them together as well as pulling the fuse. Neither worked. Called "local" Acura dealer and they wanted $125 to clear the code. Car is non-navi.

Is there anything else I can try? Or, if I buy a new oem one from dealer, will it have any codes stored?

The only option I know of is to clear the HFL memory.

Activate the HFL and say "system," then respond "clear" when given options.

On-line TL owner's manuals are linked at: J-020: 3G Acura TL Owners Manual, Navi Manual & Warranty Booklet PDFs .

A new HFL will not have any stored passcodes.

I tried this but it didn't do anything. When I press the talk button it says, "The system is locked. What is the four digit pass code?" If I say, help, it says, "The options are: the four digit pass code, go back, or help." I tried saying system, clear, clear codes, etc. but to no avail. I read in my owner's manual that you can clear it, but maybe its only after you unlock the system? Either way, going to try and return the used one (purchased on ebay) and buy a new one.

I might be able to get it, but after I tried calling Acura (the part that does radio codes and such) they said that they could not give me a code of anything to fix it. They told me the dealer would have to reset it. What did you have in mind?

number one never tell a dealer you bought a used part, that's why they are charging you due to liability.

just go to a different dealer, tell them you just bought the car and need the Bluetooth reset.

That's what I did when I first bought mine and they did it for free

Great idea. I'll give that a try.

If the exact language from the manual doesn't work to get around locked system, then try "0-1-2-3" or "1-2-3-4" to see if that saves you from a trip to the dealer.

Ha, I had the same idea. Tried 0000-9999 and 0123, 1234, etc. No luck yet.
