'04 TL Radio/CD Stopped Working
I am having problems with my sound system and would greatly appreciate any advice. I know this will be an expensive repair, so I am hoping somebody has an idea that can help.
I have a 2004 TL with navigation. Today my radio was working fine. I turned off the car, and when I turned the car on 5 minutes later all the sound was not working. I could change the station, switch to CD/XM, adjust the volume, and access the 'Audio' settings in the Navi. However, no matter what I did the sound wouldn't work.
After doing a little research online, I checked the fuse for the radio (which looks fine) and I disconnected my battery for 5 minutes. I then had to enter the code for my GPS and reconnect with the satellites, but still the CD/radio sound doesn't work. I was never prompted to enter the code for the audio system. The beeping sounds for the HFL do not work either. Also, since I reset the battery, I can no longer change the channel, adjust the volume, or access the 'Audio' settings in the Navi. All these buttons seem to do nothing.
This whole situation seems very strange to me. How could everything work and then 5 minutes later nothing works? It is almost like a fuse blew or a short happened someone. If I take my car to the dealer, they are probably going to charge me $1500 to replace the whole audio system.
Thank you ahead of time to anyone who provides a response!
EDIT: Sorry to post this in two forums (Audio and here) but I want to make sure this gets in front of the right people.

If you find out that the radio is bad, then you can get used units on eBay and they are even starting to show up in junkyards. Don't pay $1500 at the dealership for this.
You will need to know the radio ID on the faceplate of the tape player - it will be something like 1TB2 or 1TB0 or something.
