04 TL DVD-A multiple group disc

This is getting no view/reply in Audio/Video, so since it only pertains to the 3G audio system I'm posting here.

I just burned 9 Pink Floyd studio CDs on one DVD+R, dividing them into 9 separate groups. Good news--it worked! Bad news--in my Panasonic DVD-S55 and not in my TL! The TL has played 2 other DVD+R single-group discs, same media type (Ritek). I was also able to access Group 2 on Metallica so I know the group select is working.

When I put my Pink Floyd DVD in, it says "Disc" and spits it back at me. It sounds good on the home system, exactly like the CDs! But kind of pointless when the original CDs are in the changer right below the DVD player.

So what's the limit on groups? Somewhere between 4 (the # "yellow brick road" has) and 8 (because 9 doesn't work!)???

It's not the groups, it's the +R medium; compatibility has been dicey for people (although I see you had a couple work). Try a DVD-R and see if it works. Then select a different group by hitting the two round silver buttons (don't remember the labels off the top of my head) simultaneously.

Thanks, will have to get some -R/-RW media. I do know that +RWs definitely do NOT work. I thought that since I was 2 for 2 with the +R it might have been a groups issue.

Two different DVD recording formats proposed by two different sets of companies hoping to monopolize the market. Kind of analogous to what we have for cell phones - GSM (AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon, Sprint). Two different ways of doing the same thing. That's the best explanation I can provide for the average Joe.

Like I said, my 2 Ritek +R single group discs worked. Will try the 9 group disc on a -R or -RW.
