You can never be too careful parking apparently.
I try to follow a strict parking protocol and it amuses my family to no end:
1. park at end space or near handicap space on passenger side
2. park uphill with a front barrier
3. clear stray shopping carts within 50 feet of car
Pretty anal, I have to admit. Well today my 14 year old daughter and I went to get some dinner. I do the steps above and she is amused. We get into the restaurant and it's too busy for our schedule so we head back to car for a plan B selection.
And to my utter surprise I see the following ding from afar:
![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff222/LaCostaRacer/Misc/drivers-rear-fendersmall.jpg)
pened a couple days before noticing"></a>[/IMG]
I think it happened a couple days ago when I parked in one of those angled parking lots- figure a big ass truck got me backing out. Guess it time for another Paintless Dent Repair opportunity.
I guess the only other thing I can do is a walk-around, but the damage is already done. I would just no where.
Anyway, had to vent before going and picking up my daughter.

I got a similar dent in the same location on the third day of owning my car - someone didn't check their blind spot and tapped me. Took it to a paintless dent repair shop and they refused to touch it... other driver's insurance paid for the repair, ~$650.

damn that sucks
I got door dings too, and dings from road debris on the highway.
Now I park in parking spaces where there is absolutely no one around
oh, I have rust too
shit sucks.

^thanks guys. I have a good PDR guy I found when my wife dropped a ladder on the car. I sent him a photo and hope to hear back tomorrow. The nice thing about this location is it's easily accessed from behind.
Here's a link to my PDR guy in case you live in San Diego: www.dingdoctor.net
I'll post after photos if he can fix it- you will be amazed.

In the last two months I've actually been sitting in my car and been door dinged on three occasions.
People are just stupid. Two had nicer/newer/more expensive cars.
All I could do was check for damage (which there never was...at least not obvious thsnk god)and give them an ear full.
Might be worth checking where you had parked and asking for security footage. A hit and run offense might make the asshole think twice before leaving next time; no?

that sucks OP. PDR should be able to fix it up for you nice.
i'm with you, you can never be too careful when choosing a parking space.
i went bowling last night, and came out to my car afterwards and noticed someone(s) had spit loogies all over the rear windshield and left a cigg butt on my trunk lid.
pretty awesome.

^ lol. Happens to me all the time.
Better yet, there's this one spot I always try to nab when I come in to work early. It's sort of a stall and a half since they had too much room on this particular row between the concrete and side walk. They probably should have just made all the stalls a little wider but they derped up and just made this big one at the end. Anyway, whenever I park there I still hug the curb so that even if a 1984 Camaro parked next to me, they could open that big ass door all the way and still not hit me.
So what happens? The gomer pile
that parks next to me uses my car as a guage as to how to park, rather than the lines, and ends up with half of their car in my stall.
All the other derpa-derps follow suit so half of them have their wheels on the line or even strattling it a bit. I'll have to take a picture of this one day.
I swear, people are dumb. OP, definitely post pics after the repair. It's always cool to see what those guys can do
Hope it doesn't set you back too much.

I park on the end of the row in the parking lot at my work. Usually no one parks next to me as there are plenty of spaces. The first day I drove my TL to work I came out at the end of the day to find a nice ding right in the middle of the right side rear door. I checked on my car at various times during the day and I never saw anyone parked next to me. What really pisses me off is I always make a point of parking as far from the next spot as possible so I usually park on or over the opposite line since it's the last spot. Whoever hit me had to be parked over the line on the right side or had really long doors. It's ashame that people just don't care anymore. It used to be if you hit someone's car you would leave a note. We have had so many cars get hit in lots and not one time has anyone left a note.
I trained my kids to pay attention to where the car next to us is and make sure they don't hit it with their door. Wish everyone did that.

It's almost like no matter how careful and cautious you are/try to be, the simple thing is that we park in parking lots and so forth, we can't put our vehicles in our pocket and we sure can't place impenetrable barriers around it, so we pretty much just have to hope for the best, but always be prepared for anything...
Too bad we just don't live in Pleasentville, where things like that aren't possible!!!

Park next to a handicap space?!! Thats the worst place to park. Did you ever see grandpa or grandma who's 85 years old trying to back out of a handicap space? Reminds me of bumper cars! I gave up on having a nice car, because no mater what somebody always wrecks your stuff.

if i really have to park next to someone, i would start picking the brand....BMWs, Lexus and Porsche will be my top picks...![Wish](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wish.gif)
![Wish](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wish.gif)
(i assume they care about theirs more than i do to mine due to its brand, but i could be wrong...i tried to stay away from Mercedes, cuz a lot of moms drive that and most moms don't know how to drive especially asian moms)
speaking of parking in school, i see a lot of kids tend to park their IS350/250, G35, Evos as close to school as possible so ppl can get a chance to see their so called "elegant/sexy/magnificient/fast cars..........
ha...they never realize the more ppl around the more scratches.........bunch of dumb mofos

keep it clean
OP, your parking process and mine are spot on. My friends and family like to watch as I circle the parking lot for the perfect spot. I've had way too many people ding the crap out of my 4runner, so I'm taking extra care of the TL. Was your PDR able to fix it?
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm always worried that I'll find something when I walk up to my car.

People are just so darn ignorant that it bothers me to pieces. At least it can be resolved without much of an issue, but still, that's not the point. In an instance like this, would you go through your insurance company or pay out of pocket?

I actually met the guy in this video and saw his system in person. It's pretty slick, 4 pinhead sized cameras installed inside the car pointed front, back, right, left. Records to a SD memory card, and is activated by bumps to the car. Get a door ding, go home and view the video, possibly even the license plate of the car or person who damaged the car.
I've only done a quick search, but I don't see his web site up. If you are interested you could do a little more searching or perhaps try to find a similar product.

Searched a little more, looks like this is the new web site: http://www.mobilewatchman.com/ But they are "out of product until May 2012", so not sure what's going on there....

Very nice! Only one camera though, so not the same coverage. But about 1/10 the price I remember the OBS device being. Could buy two, one for the front, one for the back for about $325. I've come out to my car twice, once at the airport and once in a store parking lot to find it was hit (car before my current car). No note of course. Would have been great on those occasions to have had video to give to the cops.
