Yellow fogs are melting my headlights

hey guys, i was at ronjons warehouse yesterday and we were jus chatting when he says to me ur headlight overlay looks like its burning. i had a brown spot directly in front of my yellow fogs. so i ripped the overlay of while we were standing there. so i pull my car in the shop today to clean the headights off and i notice that theres n indent in my headlight. anyone else experience this?

Maybe noshow_nogo will be able to add to this. The two of us talked quite a bit about the overlays (he has them done). I picked up an extra set he had, but I wasn't pleased with my installation technique.

I'm interested to hear what the cause of this is? I wonder why it would do that? Unless it's burning / melting?

Are you sitting with the lights on alot?
Airflow is their only cooling method

Put plastic over anything and it will eventually get hot!!

i'm running a stock fog setup with the yellow overlay. I keep my headlights/foglights on all the time day/night and have had no problems for about 3 months now. It seems that you may have used an overwatted bulb. and a piece of vinyl is no match to that heat. even the plastic housing is iffy at that point.

It sounds like the OP had yellow fog light overlays, which I've seen others do with no reported problems. This seems like a pretty safe method to me. I guess it sounds like you can run into problems when you change the actual bulb itself though.

I run Hoen "All-Weather" bulbs which are Yellow. This is my second car with these same bulbs and I haven't noticed any issues, but I usually only turn on my fogs on dark back roads or when it's foggy out. I don't drive with them all the itme, but I'm pretty sure they are same wattage as stock, so I don't see why there would be any problems.
