Xenon/HID question

Hello all,
Just picked up a pre-owned 05 TL and I'm loving it.

Just this past week one of the driving lights went out. I was thinking of replacing both driving lights with HID's. Is it possible to put true HID bulbs for the driving lights? I don't want the fake blue lights that I see out on the road. Plus I read about HID's and they say there are specific components, like a ballast and igniter, etc. Plus I read that true Xenon HID's use 2 electrodes to arc electricity that is amplified by the Xenon gas, not using filiments like in standard bulbs. I've seen bulbs on ebay that are blue in color and Im guessing these aren't real. If I have to spend a couple hundred bucks on a kit I'd rather just put the stock bulbs back in. I only use the driving lights for my commute back and forth to work (not at night).

Any advice would be appriciated. Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above.

Welcome to Azine,

Acura TL since 1999 come standard with HIDs, so you definitely already have them.
Just replace both bulbs with D2S or D2C bulbs. The color preference is your choice.

The stock is 4300K, which is yellowish. Most members here run 6000K, which provides pure white with a little blue hue.

Most popular brands are Kaixen, Philips and Xetronic. The Kaixen vendor is one of our members, you can find him here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0#post10931190

And we're talking about driving/fog lights, not the regular headlights, right?

Ohhhh, then I've read it wrong... my fault.
You are talking about foggies..sorry.

You should definitely get an HID conversation kit. They are like 40-100 bucks. The kit will include two bulbs, ignitor w/adapters and two transformers

Please see 3G Garage, the info is there... https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-service-department-aka-garage-questions-answers-check-here-first-553557/

You're likely to melt the diffuser in front of the bulb if you convert your fogs to HIDs. The fog housing wasn't made to withstand the heat produced by an HID light.

i'm not sure if most people will regard 4300k as yellowish though... 6000k is blue no doubt.
Too high in colour temperature will result in diminished perceivable light output.

This is true. The higher the kelvin temperature, the less visible light to the human eye. Also, higher temperature lamps are not desirable in wet conditions.

3000 is yellow is for real fog useage
4300 is stock headlight low beam color white and blue
5000 has more blue with good white on the ground
6000 even more blue with less white- good for distance spotting of signs and anything with reflecto paint- road lanes and signs, on semi truck red/white stripes- the white stripes turn blue and jump out at you!! etc
BUT you do lose some white right in front of you on the ground

Daytime running lights didn't come until 07. In order to get your fogs to turn on without the headlights you have to get a DRL module.
