WTF windshield cracked?!

Parked my car at school today, came out and saw a BIGASS CRACK RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY WINDSHIELD, at first from the inside I thought it was like a streamer caught on the wipers but it was actually a bigass crack made by something.

What do I do, is this covered by insurance or what?!?!

In MA all windshield replacement is free, no matter what policy you have. Maybe the same for Cali, but I am not sure. I know it costs anywhere between 4-7 installed without insurance.

Any signes that someone stepped or fell on the car?

I live in Mass but wasn't aware that all windshield replacement glass is free. I assume that means from some of the windshield companies and not factory glass? I would jump on it if I could get some free factory glass, but if I have to use aftermarket stuff I would need to think that one through...

some insurance policies have unlimited windshield replacements and others done...check to see which one you have. caltrans threw a rock into my windshield so hopefully when the claim goes through i get it fixed that way.

So you got factory glass or some aftermarket glass? I'm curious and would like to know if I can have it replaced with factory glass for free.

Unhappy

It may vary by state regulations...but a windshield crack is a hazard. I would imagine most insurace policies would cover all or most of it. It is a comprehensive claim, so not likely to affect your premiums.

In Florida, they will come to your office, change your winshield and hand you a box of Omaha Steaks...all covered by insurance with no out of pocket expense.

Check with your insurance. But if you get it replaced (you should), check the new one for OEM features. Our TLs have an acoustic dampening layer in the glass that aftermarkets may not have?

Good Luck!

As far as I know in NJ you need to add (pay for of course) separate window protection to your policy otherwise you are SOL.

The best thing you can do is call your insurance company. It generally takes awhile before they file a claim, give you a quote and send to to a shop to have it fixed. If you have a cracked windshield, it's best you fix it right away to prevent any further damage.... especially winter is coming..

hope you can solve this matter in the least stressful way.

You have to be careful about crap like this. Some states cover the windshield replacement, some don't.

I have USAA insurance (for military families and spouses). I had my windshield cracked from a hail storm about 7 months ago in Milton, FL while I was at Aircraft Maintenance Officer's School (I'm a civilian). My wife's policy was WRITTEN in Florida, and I joined her policy when we got married. The problem was I we live in Maryland, and USAA had MY insurance written in Maryland, which does NOT offer free replacement of the windshield if it gets cracked. I argued that I joined my wife's policy and the damage HAPPENED in Florida. They said, "no we can either FIX it (i.e. fill the crack under a certain length), or you can replace the windshield at your cost (for $330)." I was pissed!

The good news was that Milton was a base that compensated you for damage due to acts of God (i.e. hail storm, hurricane, tornado, etc.). I also had to pay another $170 for bodywork (out of pocket) because my deductible was $500 total. The base gave that money back to me, but it was still a pain in the ass. I don't like USAA anymore because of that.
