WTF MY CAR got stuck in 2nd gear
I was merging onto the highway today the road was wet because its drizzling out i floor it( yea i know i shoudlnt if its wet out) and the traction kicks in and out a few times im in the middle lane and i hear the engine reving hard i look down to the tach and it at almost 6rpm....WTF??? i pop it in trip and i see the car is stuck in second gear i put it in neatral and put it back in gear, pop it back in trip and i see its in 5th gear. WTF happend to my car?? the rest of the ride it was normal and i lookd under the hood checkd the tranny fluid still red no burning smell what could have happend. The computer got stupid and made the tranny lock up is there something serioualy wrong i dont know please help out. car is only 10 months old 17k mils on it please help.

Mine did the same thing while on ice. I called Acura and they told me that the vsa does some strange things when it it activated and that it was normal. I tend to believe them, if you think about it. When the car is spinng out, one wheel is spinning alot faster that the other, if the car shifted all the way the 4th or 5th gear while it had no traction, when you finaly got traction it would put alot of strain on the engine and you would go no where. It would be like trying to take off in 4 or 5th gear with a stick. You would stall or take off very slowly. By keeping the car in 2nd you have enough power to get moving and enough range to get to highwayspeed to get out of danger.

that problem happened on my 06 5AT couple of times.. i would say, once every 3 or 4 months... would just get stuck in second, id switch to `tip, try to push it into 3rd, and back to auto...eventually it would drop into 3rd gear... probably happened like 4 or 5 times in the year and half i owned the car

happend to me a few months back, the car was sitting up for like 3 weeks without driving... I warmed her up got on the highway and when I floored it and it downshifted to second then I checked my tach and noticed it didnt shift to third and almost redlined, I shifted to tip saw it was in 2nd and put it back in auto, no harm no fowl, hasn't happend ever since

same sh*t, plus it seems like she's shifting rough. I am scared shit of honda/acura auto's. I bought the 3g type-s cuz I thought they worked out the bug's..............

I personally think every upgrade honda makes to their engines their trannys get left behind and f*ck up on people. They need to either up the software so the shift process changes or change the whole assembly all together with new software.

Does the TL have a safe mode? This is wherein if the ECU computes that the given conditions like current speed, engine temp, traction, which gear it's in are not favorable to the car it will try and preserve itself?
I know I had this incident with my 3 series BMW and It was only running in 1st and 2nd gear. When I took it to the dealer they plugged it in to the diagnostics cleared the safe mode and I was out of there. The tech said you were driving the car hard weren't you? I said heck yeah I'm paying for it ain't I? He said yeah that's the good thing about a lease you can turn it over after x amt of years and get a new toy.

I had an experience with 2nd gear in my 2G TL
I was going 80mph on a highway, the idiot transmission dropped to 2nd, I almost become one with the windshield, the car went to the dealership for a tranny replacement and a new tranny fliud spraying system. (aparently in 2G the some gears were not getting the fluid at all)
Oh well, I see 3G is not that far off, in my 08 TLS my tranny still kicks me in the ass sometimes, when I play rough with it
