Damn....8000 rpm is not good on these motors....and unfortunately your car likely recorded the whole event. Acura will not warrantee this kind of thing at all as they will pull the event from the computer and brace you with it. I have seen it happen.
Sorry this happened to you. That sux!

"It idles a little rough now"~ thats all we needed to know
Hope you have $2500-$4000 laying around
If it only bent the exhaust valves- towards the low number,
banged a valve into a piston hard enough and it can shock wave damage down thru the rod bearing and damage the crankshaft.
May as well get a crate engine- thats a new engine that arrives in a wooden box= crate
Its really cool to see a piece of the engine sticking out the side~
Makes it easy to diagnose at least!

I mis shifted my 6MT....long story short was supposed to go into 4th but went into 2nd instead. I think I probably hit about 10,000 RPM's and it felt like i hit a wall. Either way, I had $4100 worth of damage. My CEL didn't come on right away but the idle was rough. A little while later my CEL popped on. My valves were bent and had both my heads replaced on the car. My exhaust sounded like a put put put when at idle. I didn't go through Acura for the repairs. They wanted $700 for a "tear down" to tell me what was wrong w/the car. I went to a private mechanic, hooked it up to the OBD and said immediately that I bent my valves and needed new heads. It took about 2 months for my car to get repaired. Most of the time was spent waiting for Acura to send the heads from the factory. Good luck.
There is a rev limiter, however it will not stop the engine from literally being forced to operate over red line. Even the owners manual specifies this. The rev limiter only works when you are driving in gear and bring the rpm's too high before shifting.
"It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim."
Sorry to hear about your mistake. You're not alone, others have "floated the valves" doing the same thing. Ain't no rev limiter in the world that's going to hold back that amount of energy being spooled back into the crank.

on the MT cars the rev limiter can only operate on the up rev to upshift
No way to control it on a downshift- especially missed shift
With the AT cars- they can limit the revs by not allowing a requested downshift- its all microswitches and calculations
Unless you are racing there is no reason to be speed shifting, especially on the downshift!
The trans downshifting should be used to be in the correct gear to accellerate off the corner- the BRAKES are to slow the car down

Have you gen3 guys ever read your owner manual? With winter making a dramatic arrival- now is the time to understand and practice with the ABS and TCS systems
The newer the car -the more complex the system and its abilties of applying one brake to tighten a turn or control throttle etc
Dont have a book???- here they are for free from acura https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
click year then model

i was going to do this but haven't done the swap yet. the type-S valve springs have a much higher spring tension rating and should protect your valves a little better. if you're going to do a head swap might want to look into that along with type-S cams. I have an extra set of type-S heads lying around which i was going to use for parts but i need an excuse to pull my heads again, which ain't cheap!
Dang, you guys have me scarred. I missed a gear once while merging/getting out of the way of a 18-wheeler but I think I just redlined it. She runs/idles normal and I've put 3,000 miles on it after that with no problems. Should I get a compression check just in case?
thanks guys for all your responds i learned alot, today i pulled the plugs they seem fine no oil or anything so tomorrow i am taking it to the shop have them do a compression test and check for codes ,keeping my fingers crossed
ussi you think the type s valve springs will fit no problem isn't that from a 3.5 motor
