wreckless TL drivers
So i was driving home from a long day and this SSM Tl pulls up behind me in a construction area.
His speakers are loud and his horrible singing is louder. He was clearly drunk; shouting from his window and such.
He begins to follow me and i wasnt in the mood to play with him.
he gets next to me and then "guns" it. It was pretty slow..
He doesnt realize he's in a freeway entrance lane only and he almost hits the curb and also hits a minor speed dip.
It makes me mad to see a TL driver around the age of 23 driving so reckless, especially since its the 2nd "modded" 3G TL i've ever seen in utah.
so i was confused as to why he was driving so slow..
since we were both driving at around 40 mph and he suddenly "guns" it. I started testing this as i was driving home.
i started off with "downshifting" in Sports shift. I felt like i got no acceleration at all.
then i just floored it in automatic and i felt a stronger kick.
so is that right?

1) glad you're not gay.
2) auto is teh suk. that "kick" you felt is simply the transmission downshifting to a proper gear.

Theres this idiot that I see here in Knoxville all the time flying down one of the most dangerous highways in the region, flying up on my ass and weaving in and out of rush hour traffic. It kind of annoys me, but at the same time, a 3G TL looks really cool flying up from behind.
As far as the better in manual mode. Do people actually use "manumatic" what nots? I tried driving my mother-in-law's Tiburon in "sport shift" mode and the car was just like, "whatever I don't care what you want I'm shifting now."
I don't think there should be any performance difference between the two modes, maybe you just didn't downshift to a low enough gear.

never....
since ive owned a b16 crx, an 06 si, a 99 si, a 99 ex civic,
i think you get the point.
what he was describing isnt vtec, it was the downshift of the auto. the "vtec" in the tl's is lackluster at best as far as feel.

umm, I am confused. So what if the drunk gay guy who you assume is around the age of 23 (not 22 or 24) left the parking brake on? maybe that should explain the "slowness" he was drunk after all.

I hate to be a douche but what do you expect? A 3g TL, 04-06 can be purchased for 8 to 12k now. Eventually, once a cars like this become more affordable to a specific genre of people, idiots tend to be able to buy them which results in this type of abusive behavior.

Perhaps you were driving Ms. Daisy in the left lane, refusing to move to the right lane? I dont know of any highways even under construction around here that are 40mph. The lowest I've seen is 55. If they need it lower than that they just close it. Perhaps next time you should just move to the right lane and let faster traffic pass you by. A police officer will tell you the same. If the driver in question is speeding, let the police do their job, not you.

When you are entering a work zone, speed is reduced for the safety of the workers. Some are 40mph, some are 3mph, the overall speed limit however can be 55 for the highway, but not the work zone.

Sorry, late to the party. I'll take a stab at answering him.
When you are in sport mode you are already connected to throttle response. When you are in auto mode you have no quick throttle response. What you have is a lag which leaves you in a neutral feeling for a split second before the downshift happens, then woosh, off it goes feeling more potent.
It feels more like you were punched, ok pushed in the back. When in manual shift mode you are more directly accelerating and there is no punch, err, hard push comparatively.
Manual mode will make a difference when you are prepared to accelerate at a given point. Such as a race track or an upcoming passing lane. The lag when in auto is very short, but it's there.
If you're drag racing and all you do is punch it once, the automatic shifting is going to do a better job of timing the shifts than in manual mode for an average driver.
