so today on the way to work...im about a block away...and i am about to make a left turn to turn onto the street where my workplace is....and BAM! i get hit on the left side..and was completely shocked cuz it happened so quickly...


turned out that I was fine and so was the other driver, but as soon as i got out of the car she tells me that its ok and she has insurance and then asks me if im ok...

sorry but i was really pissed because i was trying to make sense of what made her think that it was ok to overtake me while she was behind me and I was trying to take a left turn...

there were no stoplights or stop signs going north/south (which is what way i was headed), only stop signs for those heading east/west..


turns out while i was driving down the road before making a left turn, the lady driving behind me decided that i was making a right turn (EVEN THOUGH MY LEFT SIGNAL LIGHT WAS ON) and thought it was ok to overtake me...AT AN INTERSECTION!


so here are the initial damages..i dont know if my car is totaled..

its an 07 base TL with 70k miles....with a navi conversion..

drivers side airbags deployed...driver's seat airbag deployed..

probably needs a new fender, bumper, door, and side skirt...

door doesnt shut...

i think alignment is fine but havent driven more than one block... and then had it towed..


i dont know...

this kinda sucks

its funny because right before I opened this new thread, I saw the WDP that was wrecked in another thread recently, and couldnt believe how eerily (spelling???) similar our cars look after the wreck and where they were hit

to the OP - sorry to hear your car got hit, but at least you're ok!! Judging from the damage from what we see, they would probably fix it. Whether or not there is frame damage underneath is a different story.

 

Sorry about your accident OP. Glad you are okay. I don't know if the insurance company will write it off as a total loss, but keep us posted. Good luck!

I don't think it's totaled. Then again, I don't know how expensive those curtain airbags can be.

Make sure they check to see if the control arms aren't bent and the car is aligned properly after repair

id say its fixable. the shop will tear down the suspension to make sure all is well.

the cost of the airbags is another story but im going to guess the total cost of repair will be close to 10k

i was involved in a similar accident a few months back and damages to my car came out to 7300

idk. it would be close. if its borderline, id just fight to have it totaled and start fresh.

 

Hey, glad to hear you're ok. The damage doesn't TOO bad. Like they said above, it will depend on frame damage or not, but it doesnt too bad, tbh.

had a friend in 08 get in a similar accident in his 07 type-s and they did not total.. but not sure with the age of the car if they will.. there is not enough damage to total but it all depends on if the frame is bent.. then again my friends frame was bent slightly but they were ok with passing it.. didnt affect anything or driving.. but not sure if that affect decision for an older car

her car's damage wasnt as severe. just her bumper looked bad.


at this point im hoping its totaled and maybe starting fresh..

but with my luck it wont be totaled and be stuck with the car after this wreck...hopefully no real issues arise after its fixed..

had my 02 accord in a similar accident and they didnt total it...but i never felt that it drove the same...

it would always pull to the right no matter how many times i got it realigned.

My guess is if your car is totaled, it's not because of the airbags. From my previous experience, an airbag costs less than $1000 (either front or curtain). And that was an E60 BMW 5 series.

Labor is another story though...

update: initial estimate--$11000.

We are going to talk to the lady's insurance company to try to get another estimate from an acura dealership and see if they can come up with another figure (the hope is to get a total loss...)

I love this car but I don't want it back after a wreck like this. especially with the airbags deploying. I know its not a major deal since airbags deploy in minor fender benders but Ive heard horror stories..

not to mention the depreciation of the car with all the body work that will be needed...

so we are going to fight to get it totaled...

heres a question though..

my car is a base model TL and I did the navi conversion..

should i take out all the parts and sell them here on acurazine or should i leave them in there and try to get the insurance company to pay for it?

all the parts are still working...

THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!

When I still had my 06 Accord V6 6mt, I was driving down a two lane road, when to turn left and when I did that the car behind thought they would overtake me. Hit me in the driver's door. My Accord was totaled, with the damage at around $13,000. I'd say your TL is definitely totaled. The airbags deployed and where it was hit I'm sure it has some frame damage, just like my Accord did. Even if it's not totaled and you have it reparied, it will probably never drive the way it did before the accident.

 

when i first scrolled down i thought you had just copied and pasted my picture and then i looked and was like wait thats not my car lol. wow that looks very similar to my car. like i said the initial estimate is $11k and they are NOT totaling the car...so im getting another estimate from an acura collision center and hoping they can come up with a better estimate so that I could argue to total the vehicle...

good thing is most of the mods I did can be taken out I guess.

had a kenwood media receiver, jl audio sub, alpine amp, focal speakers, etc

i can take all that out


its just the navi conversion that I am going to have to worry about

I dont have the previous subdisplay anymore to replace the nav screen but Im sure I can get it off ebay if need be


also, now im debating whether I should get a 07-08 Type S or 4G base TL...


at least now I can upgrade


I love the way the 4G TL looks therefore willing to sacrifice and buy a base, but then there is the 3G TYPE S TL...

what do you guys suggest? I welcome all opinions...


the only thing I worry about is the fact that 2012 is right around the corner and do I really want to buy a 5-6 year old vehicle...when I could spend around the same and get an 09-10 TL base....

I bought this acura in Feb 2010..so it was barely 3 years old...

Sorry for your loss but Im glad that your Ok and Im pretty sure u love ur TL even more than you ever did before..... These cars are awesome ... I got an update on the estimate for $13625. And I have decided to keep my car.

My baby saved my life and now its my turn to save its life ... I just cant let her go. Take care and be safe !

 

I do love my TL but at this point I kind of have my heart set on a 4G TL, even if it is a base since my TL was a base anyway. Im glad you decided to keep your car, they truly are built like a rock lol. Any other car and who knows what the situation wouldve been like for the both of us. Also, your wreck seemed worse than mine and Im glad you made it out ok. Hopefully she returns to you the same way before the wreck. Keep us updated with pics when you get her back!!
