It's increasingly difficult to find anything with AWD MT and decent power (275hp+). BMW is about it, other than this '10 TL SH-AWD.

I also think Acura should have badged the SH-AWD as the Type S to boost sales. It's a moniker that has been successful for them in the past and a nice way to emphasize the performance and feature differences.
- That's an expert opinion by the way. I have a undergrad Minor in Marketing. Haha!

I guess the reason why they didn't badge the sh-awd as TYPE s is because their target segments have changed with the introduction of the 4G TL. They are competing with the 5series, lexus Gs and MB Eclass whereas previous TLs were competing with 3series, infiniti G, MB C and like. What they should have done was put a TYPE S Badge on the TSX. One can argue that the v6 TSX lacks the power to be badged as type s. Perhaps what acura should have done is introduce the TYPE S 2 years prior to a new facelift just like how they always introduce TYPE S at the last minute. But giving v6 more power and torgue and give new minor cosmetic look , just like the 3G tpye s. I always thought 2G TL type S had nothing different from the base TL other than few extra horse and diff rim. However the 3G TL type s BLEW me off with minor appearance changes, diff engine and etc. To me 4G TL Type s wouldn't seem right. SH-AWD sounds more in the right path and suited for the older targeting group

BMW, MB and Audi all have performance cars at that size - think of M5, E63AMG and S6; only infinity and lexus do not offer anything performance oriented, so personally, I would not think it would be a bad idea to offer Type-S model

yeah BMW BENZ and audi does offer high performance oriented cars as you mentioned, M5, e55 or 63 and s6. Lexus is working on GS-F as well. When they offer these performance vehicles, they dont just add 30 + hp. They really boost up the hp as well as the physical appearance. compare 5series to M5 and e class to e63 AMG. Bigger engine, more torque and hp as well as minor cosmetic changes. You're kind of comparing apples to oranges. You can't really compare TYPE S to M and AMG. If they had put type s logo instead of sh-awd, it just wouldnt look or sound right, IMO. TYPE S sounds so much more sportier than sh-awd. TYPE S imo is for younger audience. You don't see RL coming up with TYPE S badge. If TL was still competing with 3 series and the C class then it might not be a bad idea. I guess you can argue that TYPE S is acura's M and AMG. Lexus is the only japanese brand that attempts to compete with the M and the AMG class by introducing the is -f and the gs-f.

No. Acura went from one of the most attractive cars on the road to one of the ugliest. Who let Pontiac in their design studios?

I would never buy a 4g because the 3g has the aggressive stance, and the attitude that I like. The 4G reminds of an upscale luxury sedan...more like the Infinit G series...which is not a bad thing. It's just that the 3g appeals more to my inner beast. This is all subjective and I'm sure the 4G is a great ride...just aint me though.

yeah 4g has that upscale luxury sedan look rather than the 3g's sportier look. 3G is by far the best looking TL or the best looking car acura has ever designed. Someone had mentioned how the 4G TL was designed by someone who grew up and studied here (USA). I presume the 3G TL was designed by a foreigner.

You presume incorrectly. The 3G was designed in the same California Acura studio as the 4G.

Wow, you guys are really surprising me. First, you think the 4G looks like a luxury sedan? I'm not seeing that, but I'm glad someone is. But, I do like the new electronic gadgets. But it's still not enough to buy one. I just can't drive a car I don't like the look of.

I despised the 4G at first but it's really growing on me. If I were to buy one though, it would have to be a SH-AWD. After driving around my dad's G35x for a while, I can't get enough of how planted you feel to the road with AWD. Plus the baby wheels on the FWD are ugly as shit.

I would be inclined to look around at other cars in that price range as well before just hopping on the 4G, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possible option.

Has anyone gotten confused between the 4G and the Saturn Aura from behind? I have about 10x.....

There's no mistaking it from the front, though.....horrible. What's up with the weird side profile too? Those front fender lumps?? I hope someone was fired.....

3G TL = designed and made in California, with an engine designed and made in Ohio same goes for the 2G

...as an addendum to my earlier post...My wife and sister in law saw one and loved it...sister in law said "you shoulda bought that one"...(lol) Today I parked beside one at Target (no shameless plug intended) and i compared the two. The rear says to me "I'm an Acura, I'm a baaad boy" and the rear quarter and side says "I'm friendly, I won't hurt you" I dunno man maybe it'll grow on me...but I love every angle of my 3g...it never had to grow on me "cause it was love at first sight!

I love the 3G TL. The 4G however is a different story. With all the other cars out there that look much better (M3, G37, IS350, CTS-V (coupe), E-coupe), It would be too hard for me to find purchasing a 4G TL worth it.

Hell No. Its not faster than a 3G, its heavier, bigger with no more room inside or in the trunk, its way way way uglier and outside of AWD, what do you get?

I don't want to drive by and have kids throw rocks at me b/c they are scared.

I wasn't talking about the location of where the TL wa designed. I'm talking about the designer's background as to where the designer had studied and was raised. I'm aware that the 3G and the 4G TLs were designed in United states.

Damn the 2009 TL is nice...

on the inside. What a great looking and feeling interior, blows away the 3g IMO. I dont like the outside but Acura really did a great job on the interior of this car. From the side it looks good too...if only there was a better looking front and back.

I don't like the center stack and the big knob on the for the Navigation. I also don't like the location on the navigation screen on the 4G. I much prefer the touch screen on the 3G models. I would have to agree that I like the seats in the 4G, but that's about it.

yea that knob thing is really annoying. touch screen is the way to go. so much quicker. the interior has improved but not drastically. when you compare 2G TL to 3GTL, the 3G TL interior is so much superior than the 2G TL. However when comparing 3gTL interior to 4g TL interior, you do notice that few things have improved but not to a point where it blows you away. its nice but not a major leap from 3g to 4g. Hence once again our 3G TL does NOT feel outdated =)

Like someone on this forum said, eventually most people will be driving the 4G TL

Even with the ugly ass grille, the 6MT definitely appeals to me.

it'd be nice if someone can find posts that were made back when 3G first came out. I want to know who and what people had said about the 3G back when it was first introduced. if majority of the current 3G TL drivers said negative things about the 3G TL, then i would consider ALEXSU's statement to be valid.

I wouldn't buy one as is, I'll keep my CL and 2008 TL base.
I have also have to disagree with the above, my sales rep picked me up in a 2009 TL yesterday and after sitting in the car for a few hours and really looking over the interior I just wasn't that impressed. It actually looks fairly similar the the new Accord in many repects, I don't think it's the huge upgrade from the 3G that some suggest but you have to spend some time with it to really get a feel for it.
The car looks goofy from the front, just can't get over it I guess.
It also still has the same outdated tranny, it's bigger, heavier and offers no improvement performance wise other than the AWD.
Acura has lost touch with the demographic that made this car successful and the latest sales numbers prove it.

If i could have the inside of the 4G with the outside of a 3G, it would be the only way I would touch a 4G. Acura screwed up the looks to me, the only decent looking car they make right now is the TSX.

I had the opportunity to own a 4g for a weekend and honestly I didnt like it at first but it kind of grew on me after I drove it around. But on a serious note I dont think I would buy it as I don't "love" it as much as the 3g. If anything I would upgrade to a TL type S :P. I think next vehicle will be an M5 or the new AMG E Class...

I just wish I could add the Nav Weather. I don't really need the Push To Start feature. The hard-drive would be OK, but not a necessity. Other than that, the Type S seats feel better than the 4G seats. I don't like the 4G center armrest/console.

It's hard to say. I don't think I would. It has grown on me, but I still feel the grill is terrible when it extends above the headlights as much as this does. I'd wait to see what Acura does with the MMC. If it corrects the grill by extending the hood, then I'd consider a 4g. I love the look of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse.

The way Acura is going from a styling perspective I'll probably end up keeping my 3g for years to come.

^^^ I agree about Buick LaCross. I'm not holding hope about Acura correcting the nose.
