I was an avid hater of the grille as well and wasnt that fond of whole design when it first came out, unlike the 3G which was love at first sight I thought that the 4G was an acquired taste for only a few.
BUT after driving the car for a few days and seeing it almost everyday as one of my close friends just bought one I think I am falling for the 4G
Granted that the grille is the most hated bit about the car but if you drive it and live with it for a day you'll look past the grille easily. The whole package outweighs the so called ugliness of the front.

That's not the way I remember it, I remember when the 3G came out everyone on the acura forums was saying it looked good.

Its not a speculation, for 2010 the 6 MT is available for both FWD and AWD TLs. You can check on www.acura.com

No can't do it- the car is not only ugly, but too long now to fit comfortably in my garage situation. The new TL's extra 6 inches is too long for me. I refuse to park outside in the driveway.
Seems the 189" of the 3rd gen is plenty long for a 5 passenger vehicle. I could go an extra inch in length and buy an Accord coupe or go down 4 inches to a TSX. I guess size matters in more ways than just what spam emails say :-).

I can't really follow the "if I mod it" route, we can mod anything. The original question I think was stock, base model of both gens. I've only had on 07 for a couple weeks, so I cross shopped the 4Gs since they had some pretty good deals in my area. I just couldn't figure out what the heck they were getting at there. I just don't think I'm smart enought to get it...whatever IT is. I also don't think anyone is questioning the interior or handling, they are without doubt, bad ass.
Who knows, maybe the entire industry is going that way. Maybe in 5 years every new car will start to follow this design, then we will all be thinking how smart they were to get ahead of the curve. Look how nice even the older 2 gens still look, I thought they were ahead of their time. Or it could go the other way, and end up like the Aztec, which nobody copied.
Wait, what was the question again? Oh right! No, I don't care much for the current model.

I like the sides of the 4G a lot.... but the front and rear just kill it. The front of the SH-AWD could look better with a nice grille, but the weird lights/reflectors in the lower front bumper of the base TL look ugly. The rear is just hopeless, it has the same ugly huge ass reflectors in the lower bumper. I think the best description of it was something like "I could almost see Megatron's mug sticking his tongue out at me" ![rofl](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
Its just too big though. It seems to be a great car, just failed in the exterior design. The weird fender bulge in the shoulder line grew on me but the rest of the car didn't. Contrary to what a lot of people said, the 4G looked WORSE in person

It's just not sporty enough for me...big, slow, etc...
I think the reason us 3rd genners hate on the 4G so much is the fact that it's target demographic is not the young, car modder type. The 3G was more of a "younger guys car", and I see the 4G as more upscale than the 3G.
I used to hate on it, but then I realized that it's got its demographic and those are the people that matter to honda.

Loving my 08 TLS!
When I had my 2nd TLS, I have this warm butterfly feeling that it is great car. I have this same feeling when I got my 3rd Gen TLS. The 4G is just hideous. Yes the interior is nice, but come on, how can you wake up every morning and look at that. No thanks!!

I think the style grows on you after a while. For me its Blackura's 4g that really makes me like the WDP 09 TL. The car has potential if people are willing to put the time into it to change up the style of the car, just like with our 3gs. I would consider it being that is has new technology and its a solid driving car.

One on the right for me
Hell no. At first I thought the pictures made them look like shit. Then when I saw one in person I figured it would grow on me and not look like shit. It has been several months and they still look like shit.
This TL will be my last.

I would stick with my 3G 07 TL-S... until Honda/Acura fire all the design department, engineering department, and product management department, and bring "real" up to the "luxury par" team that actually really understand what the market wants and not the blah blah ZDX team who's claiming they designed a car/crossover SUV that the market wants, and that the design would blown away...
I guess, all they've done these couple years, is to blown away, long time loyal customer that loved Honda/Acura engineering and design... BUT NO MORE!!!
Most of my friends, and strangers say that 3G TL's design and lines is a classic...
What do you guys think?

I'll see what acura has in store when the 4G Type-S version comes out, lets hope its turbocharge and around 370ish HP (Damn im dreaming). But I really hope they change that damn grill! and make the headlights a tad bigger.

i had a 4g tl for a loaner, a week or so ago, and the interior just felt to cheap. and i noticed alot more road noise compared to my 06 MT Navi. that and the DRL's make the car seem lamer, due to not having the ability to just turn them off. just my 2 cents.

Keep Right Except to Pass
One thing that enters my thinking on the general car buyers' reactions to the new TL is how many I see on the road. The 3G TL is an extremely popular car here in the DC area (so is the 2G, for that matter). You see quite a few of them every day if you drive more than a minimal distance. But I seldom see any 4G TLs unless you stop at the Acura dealer. I saw one today. While some might argue that the economy has tanked and slowed car sales in general, if there's any market where the economy might be considered more resilient, it's probably the DC area simply because the government seldom goes out of business! The relative scarcity of 4G TLs on the road here speaks volumes.

The 4G TL is still selling relatively well.

I have to agree, I haven't seen very many on the road here in my city either. Maybe they are selling well in certain areas? I've stopped into a couple dealers here and the salesmen have all had something to say about the difficulty they are having in moving the new body style. Maybe it's because I'm in the midwest and we just aren't into that fancy future look or something? Not sure, but I do know they aren't selling that well here.

Car & Driver said the new 4G TL "has a face only a mother could love." I love my 3G Type S because of it's exterior styling. The bells & whistles are outstanding too. Even though the 4G has newer bells & whistles, I don't like the exterior looks. I understand that Acura switched classes from a Sports Sedan to a Luxury Sedan-I prefer the former, not the latter.
