Would you buy your TL again?
#41
Yes I wish I had bought mine with less miles. Even though the design is older it's still a very good looking vehicle. Besides Acura lost me with the 4G style and I've never been able to get over it until the TLX. Based on looks I think I might go shopping one day gonna wait and see what bugs fall out first.

You can get a used Lexus GS350 for under 40k. I'd get that if I were in the market today. Or even a new Accord.
The 3G TL is still nice, but it is definately outdated by today's standards.

so if I was set on the J35A8 in the S-type - what mileage would you start to be concerned at?
I dont want to wait around for 6 months hoping for a <20k miles, but im a little hesitant to go over 60k. I know its a well build engine and all, but what do you guys think?

If you're waiting for the ideal Type-S, it may be out there, but the longer you wait, the more that mileage will accumulate. I wouldn't worry about the engine if it's well maintained. 60K on these engines is nothing.
Don't forget that even an 08 is coming up on 6 years old, so getting the rare <20K mile car is getting even more rare, and if you're looking for a 6 speed, <20K mile car, you're going to have to travel to get one or wait until one shows up on any of the car sale sites.

I have an '07 base TL. Still a great looking car - I love its aggressive lines - especially compared to the other options in its class. I'd buy it again if I got a great deal on it. It meets 80 percent of my needs, is a great long-haul commuter, and the auto-stick allows you to play around a bit in the twistys. My main complaints are the various buzzes and squeaks that it has picked up (102k) and I wish it had a little more power (a problem solved by the Type-S). Otherwise, all it has asked for is a battery (warranty covered), the o-ring on the power steering inlet ($1.75 and 20 minutes), and fresh fluids...

are you asking if i would buy my TL again in the current market today or when i actually purchased it new back in 2005?
if you are asking the former (should anything happen to my TL), I'd move onto to something else...like a new TLX SHAWD.
if you are asking the latter, then at the time way back when, then yes i'd buy my TL. i might have waited for the type-s had i known i was coming out in 2007, but in 2005 given my options...my TL was an instant connection with me at the right price point.
however i believe i'm coming from a different perspective since i'm one of the few original owners left while the majority are here as the 2nd, 3rd, 4th owners...

I'm an original owner and yes I would have bought the TL again in retrospect. I probably would have bought the 6-speed though since my wife never drives my car. The auto is fine and I still love to drive, work on, and care for the car. It still gets a once every 2 week car wash by me and is still garaged at night.
I often find myself at work looking at my car from the office and it brings a smile to my face how well it has aged in 8 years and 61k miles. I still love the styling and it's in excellent shape. All the bells and whistles still work too.
I have learned an awful lot from this forum so when it comes time for the next car, it will be a tough migration if the next car is not a TLX. At this point, I have no plans to replace my TL, but might in 2016- perhaps it'll go to my daughter then for college.

I only read the first post but I fully agree and I'm in the same boat. I bought mine new and never thought I would still have it. I had planned on buying a new car once this one was paid off but here we are almost 3 years later and it still has no dings or dents and still looks practically new. I would feel guilty for wasting money on a new car.
I keep an eye out for very low mileage 3G TLs just in case I need to replace mine or if the price is right add another and keep the miles down. I'm in the middle of a timing belt change right now so I plan to keep it for a long time.
The body style is truly timeless which I said back in '06. I've had an abnormally large number of people think my car is a new car. You can take care of any car well and keep it looking good but the design still looks fresh like it could still be sold today.
I believe this is one of the best daily drivers to get from point A to point B. It helps to have a second more performance oriented car to take care of the itch but it's the perfect daily driver for me and it doesn't seem like it's aged a bit.....as long as you don't use the navi lol.
I had to fight with this for a while because it doesn't make sense to buy an older car when you can get a brand new car but there's nothing out there that interests me for under $55,000 which may happen but I would feel guilty for it.
The rare time I've seen someone else driving my car (my fiancée) I'm always surprised at how good it looks. We had to trade cars once and I saw my car going the opposite way and I had no idea it looked that good in motion. I actually thought that before I realized it was mine.

TL is a great ride. All the bells and whistles you can ask for. One thing i regret buying the 6spd one instead it be more fun than the 5spd auto.
Would i buy it again? Probably no i would of gone with the is350.

I probably would. Made no mistake in holding out for the top of the line Type-S.
Honestly theres nothing else that is so well rounded in the same class now for the 20-30k market. Probably C63 or M3 Sedan will be the next car when they come down in price a bit.

I bought my TL 1wk after the Type-S pictures came out in 2006. I was purposely waiting to see if it would be worth it because I was getting a crazy deal $5k+ off sticker on a 2006. If I wanted a 2007, I'd be paying sticker. I decided I could put less than $8k in on mods on a 2006 and make it better than a stock Type-s. Never thought I'd actually get carried away and invest another $20k+ into the car, lol. Only thought I'd keep the car 5 yrs. The one drawback is that the Type-S doesn't come in anthracite metallic. And I definitely can't get used to the red lighting accents, definitely like the blue better.
Yea. Like most already said if I knew then what I know now, I would ditch this auto tranny. It was a hard decision, but I shoulda stuck to my gut and bought the 6-speed, it was sitting right there. Biggest regret in this car. Since I've had the car this long and spent this much, yes, I should have bought the Type-S.
Other than that, zero regrets. Best car I've ever owned.
