Would you buy your TL again?
Bought one of the first 04 TSX's available and loved that car through 2010...sold it for a new A4 and wish i never did.
Now the A4 has to go, and all I can think about is the 3g TL. I cant find an exterior that looks better IMO new or used, my only problem is that its now 5 years old.
The $ isnt a big deal, I dont need to buy used, but Im having a hard time finding anything that looks as good and as reliable as the 3g TL for under 40k.
Seems like a stretch to replace my 2010 A4 with a 5yr older Acura but 4g is hideous and im at a loss for what else to consider. Ive found some 08's with about 40k miles on them which is barely broken in for an Acura...whatta you think....would you get a 5yr old 3g again?

what's your budget? under 40k? maybe a 2012 or 2013 G37?
if you are inclined to get a 3G, I'd recommend getting a Type-S.
I love my TL, but if I was in the market today, I would not buy a 3G. Although the design is great it has aged (albeit quite well).

I would totally buy it again. Except this time trying to find a Type S KBP hehehe. I love the 3g model look. Also, I'm so used to the stiffer steering now that any other car I get in I feel like the steering wheel is about to fall off LOL!

I'd buy it again back in '09 when I picked it up originally. I might buy an 07-08 Type-S 6MT now. If I were in the <$40K now, I'd probably scope out something like a 2013/14 Accord EX-L 6MT coupe, although I'd wait a few years for the depreciation to kick in. I'd never buy a car that's <2-3 years old.

I love the TL and would absolutely buy it again. Especially now that people are integrating tablets into the navigation space, newer cars don't have too many advantages, outside of new headlight designs, lane warning systems, etc. I'm not a huge fan of paying premiums for the latest/greatest techno-wizardry, and the resulting repair costs that get tied into it (hello, A4 turbos...), so the well-tested J32 engine and 3G platform is a great fit for me....
With that said, the Q50 is a pretty face, and the interior is surprisingly similar to the 3G TL. Pricing is right in that $37k-$42k range. Or you could wait until summer 2014 for the 5G TL, which I think looks pretty sharp.

Im thinkin any Type-S has been well hooned....after all, thats exactly why I would get a Type-S...even though I would really like the MT6.
I was going on the assumption that if i found a low mileage regular 08, it was probably owned by some housewife that drove it around the neighborhood and took it to Acura for service. Thats the one i want. I can make my own upgrades.
I do like the looks of the TLX, but as a new platform id have to wait until at least late 2015 for them to work out the kinks, and still no interior shots to prove they've cleaned it up!

That being said, hell-to-the-yeah I would buy it again. The only thing I would do differently would be to negotiate harder. I paid 26k for it in 2011 w/ 35k miles. It was a 3 year lease.

I traded in a 2011 loaded Nissan maxima for my type s. I had been swayed by some fancier options, but after having them for a year I realized they didn't mean much if I didn't like the look and feel of the car they were on. I certainly have no regrets about my purchase more than 2 years later. I suppose it helps that I have modded it to really make it feel like mine as well.

you do know that this car was 35-40k brand new, right?
teens could not afford this, brand new.
and the ones that were "hooned out" in, you will obviously notice right away, as it will be priced accordingly. IE: less than 10 grand for a 04-06 base model.
try to purchase a well maintained TL.

I have had many casual people come up to me and compliment my car and ask me if it's a 2010+ model. To which I tell them its a 10 year old car and they're extremely surprised. The 3G TL was truly way ahead of it's time, as long as you find a clean one (I wouldn't be too concerned about mileage, it's a Honda) you're good to go.
If I could do it all over again, I'd have saved up more cash and gotten a Type S 6MT. I love my base, but I'm in the process of doing a full S exterior & interior conversion which goes to show what I really wanted.

Alright so money isn't an issue eh? How about if I offered you the most mint of mint, rarest color made, and lowest mileage 6mt Type S's you'll ever find? How much would you spend for it? ;-D

Ok, so im not crazy....a 5yo car is still better than the majority of crap available today <40k.
Ive got a line on two I am going to drive this weekend. I know the 5AT is a crap shoot but mostly in the earlier 3G....any tips or things to watch out for that might spell trouble besides the obvious or hint at pending troubles?

If you go with a 07-08 base you shouldn't experience the same transmission issues that the previous years had. at the end of the day though, i'd go with what some of the guys were saying earlier - get a 07-08 Type S and you won't regret it. The price is right and the difference saved will allow you to do a number of aftermarket mods as well. As you mentioned, 40K miles is nothing for this car.
I'd buy this car again for sure, though perhaps in KBP (though I love my CBP)

I thought KBP was the rarest color made? Only available on the S whereas MRP was also available on the base models.

No, it's the same MRP for 07-08 base and S models. It was RRP during 04-06.

Yes since I've enjoyed the crap out of the car as an allrounder. If I didn't need the practicality I would've just bought an '93 SC300 or an S2K but I don't think I'd enjoy driving it as long as I drive my 3g.
Its just so comfortable to drive long distance and has gotten me out of tickets too lol. "You're driving a 4 door car. Don't want to ticket an upstanding member of society" vesus "here's a dumb kid screwing around in his sports car, cha-ching!"

I agree KBP was probably one of the nicer color choices, but from what I know KBP only came in tan interior though....not my thing.
the search starts for a low mileage CGP like my old TSX or NBP / ebony interior. If you guys know of any, feel free to PM!

No I would not buy it again unless it was a Type-S, but its not worth upgrading to a Type-S in my opinion... Basically I still have this car because I'm not interested in an Audi, or a BMW because it's already on par with those cars but I aint spending 30k plus this car to get one. Even with spending 30k, there isnt much to gain with an audi or a Bmw. I have navi and leather and outside temperature gauge, whatelse do people want? My car is still nice with 72k miles and a new timing belt and all the maintenance done. So, trading it would not be a great idea but selling it outright might be doable. And the only other car I like a Z06, but those are really high priced and not as reliable as a TL. So in the nutshell, this TL is all-around the best deal, and it is paid for. There's no other cars I like that are priced right. And any car that is priced right, it's not a gain over this TL!! Amazing my car is still nice.. But still, there are issues with the TL design.

I'm not being biased at all because of what I own (because I have owned 4 different Type s colors lol), and even though I don't have any numbers to back it up, but I'm almost certain a MRP with ebony interior 6mt Type S is the least produced of them all.
Oh and since you guys were questioning it, you can get either interior color with every exterior color available on the Type S. Ebony/silver or the Taupe (light gray).

Yes, yes I would. Although I would probably take a little longer and find a KBP or NBP 6MT Type-S.
On another note (from left field), I might take a look at other vehicles. I've recently developed a big interest in the Honda Ridgeline...I know. Totally different vehicles. And yet, looking back now, the Ridgeline would be one that I'd test drive and consider.

if I had the chance I would get a tl-s instead of a auto base model, only reason I got this car was cuz I wanted to get out of the car scene lol worked for a little while but id say in the long run it backfired haha I'm stacking parts in the garage waiting to get it all set up
