Well, did you really drive a thousand miles just to beat the car up? =\
I really havn't even past 3500 RPM and I'm a little over 15000 miles. I hope you dont kill your car because 1000 isn't a SET mile for TLs to be beaten on. It all depends on how you drive to begin with... if you drive like a granny, then the engine won't "break in" as fast as if you constantly hit 5000 RPM off the light / stop sign. Now, to explain what a "break in" really is...

When you're breaking in your car, you want your engine to get used to the friction from the pistons moving up and down...

Now, do you think 1,000 miles is enough for your engine to get used to it? Technically, you can floor a car with 1 mile on it. The fact is, the engine will NOT be used to it.. and there may be potential problems. Now I am not saying 1,000 miles is not enough... I am just saying that is still very little miles.

It's actually 1000 KMs (I'm in Canada...metric )....and the 1000 KM break-in period is according to the Owner's Manual.

I was being a bit facetious in my post as well....I'm not going to beat the hell out of it, but I've been driving like a granny to help facilitate break-in....piston rings lapping into cylinder walls, etc., I'm aware of what engine break in entails.

Point is...I'm looking forward to driving the car the way it is supposed to be driven.

My break in period will entail a Zex nitrous system and a test of mechanical integrity.

IIRC, the owner's manual said 600 miles for us in the US. OP is in Canada and using 1000 km (see post #4), which is just over 600 miles.

LOL!...yeah, it still freaks me out a bit when I look at it! I think that's why I've kept it!

And yes, I'm in Canada, hence the 1000 KM (625 mile) break in period....all according to the Owner's Manual.
It's not like I'm doing 7000 RPM brake stands from stoplights, but it sure is nice to blip through the gears and open it up!...I love this ride!

YOU'RE A SICK PUPPY
You'll tell us next month you can't afford any mods due to high price of gas (uh... petrol)

Have fun, and stay safe.

I find it hard to believe that serious damage could be done in the break-in period. When I was test driving the car the salesmen told me to floor it and see what it could do!

Of course I didn't buy that car though, I bought one fresh off the truck with one mile on it and then babied it the first 600 miles...

what if I drove my NEW type-S TL on highway around 80 mph??

Will it affect to its performance??

I usually hit 40~50 on city tho.

10 years of driving... NO speeding tickets so far!! Paying $104 for insurance! Woot!

But I do want to max out the tl-s after 1000miles.. Now I'm on 750.

still getting used to the paddles though, i peg it off the rev limiter all the time in 1st! it's a little different than driving a stick, the car accelerates like a banshee though, i love it!

Just because you passed the "break-in period" doesn't mean you should try to "Break" the car.

please dont tell me you guys buy these cars and shift at 3 grand. they're honda motors and meant to be pushed towards the higher RPM limits (ummm thats VTEC and how they make max power). Rev limiter is fine, its there to keep you from going into an RPM range that can do damage.

This is my 3rd honda(99Si and 06Si), and every one of them was revved daily to 8000+ rpms and my cars have never had an issue. The TL-S is a sports sedan, it can take the abuse all day long.

600+ miles is after the designated break in...break in is mainly BS anyway, i find the harder its driven the stronger the motor is down the road. everyone has a different opinion on break in.

a few pegs off the limiter is fine, its not like its doing it for more than 1-2 seconds max. also the only time i have the issue right now is in 1st... once i'm a bit more familiar i'll know when to pull the paddle and get the shift right at redline. not being able to control the shifts exactly with the clutch/shifter takes a little getting used to...and just having the car in auto mode is too boring!

I heard that the modern car engines are ARLEADY got breaked-in in its factory so you won't really need to follow so called ' first 1000 miles ' myth LOL

Just like oil changes.. You don't really have to change it every 3000.
its okay and safe to change them every 5000..

But then you cant go wrong by doing those I guess

Don't you believe this. There is no way a mass-produced car with a mass-produced engine is going to have this done. It is just not cost effective. Would defy economies of scale.
