Wing spoiler

Nice looking car! Think it would look a lot better with a wing spoiler on it , though . . Am surprised more people aren't having those put on the new TLs. Any thoughts pro or con?

P.S. I normally don't like the Spoiler look, but on the TL it really makes the car look much sportier and less like a Honda

The two TLs I have test driven had the wing spoiler on them. I actually prefer the lip spoiler that I think flows better with the lines of the car.

I don't feel that the TL "needs" a spoiler on it. The lip on the trunk looks great on its own. The Accord on the other hand really needs something on its trunk like a spoiler to improve its backside.

Danno:
F117 Stealth Fighter.

F111 was a great platform--ground avoidance radar,
seperatable cockpit for egress, and the EF version was our
contender in the EW world.

I was EA6B's.
Much better platform--airframe has been extended to 2015!
SEAD: Supress Enemy Air Defense.

Got Reflections?

Just an opinion, don't mean to ruffle any feathers, but I agree with others that this car looks great without spoilers. I don't think the car needs any extra body panels, ground effects, spoilers..nuthin! To me, TLs with all that extra plastic on them make it look like the owner is trying too hard to, I don't know, be a BMW? Maybe I just think it looks tacky to add lower panels and spoilers to this car. Only mud guards make sense to me, and those are purely for function IMO.

I think the A-spec is ridiculous. I could see getting springs, 18" wheels and other stuff to make the car more performance oriented, but the other stuff is just showy and obvious.

Having said that, I do however, think the lip spoiler is nice looking on the TL because it is subtle, but still it seems like a waste of money to me.

I opted for the Deck Lid Spoiler. To me, it added a nice subtle effect to the rear. The others were overkill, IMO.

This will all be according to personal taste of course. There is no *right* answer, except for the one you arrive at yourself.

As most people know, the true need for a spoiler is downforce for racing at VERY high speeds, so they serve no practical purpose on a car driven on city streets.

That said, some people like the look of them, and if they are not too over the top can look nice on the TL. I had a spoiler on my last TL, and considered getting another one for the 04, but decided against it. The older one with the integrated brake light was very low profile and looked better in my opinion. However, when I test drove the 04, it had a spoiler on it, and it made visibility even more restrictive than it already is, in part because it rides higher than the older one, not to mention the design lends to reduced visibility. That coupled with the fact that the new rear looks great already, I decided against it this year.

Danno.
The F-111 was the Aardvark.
The EF-111 was the Raven.
The EA6B IS the Prowler.

Hawkeye IS the E2C--baby AWACS for AEW (Airborm Early Warning)...

After the Airforce realized that their EW platform was a flying piece of FOD, they decommissioned the EF-111's and implanted Airforce EW Pilots & ECMO's (Electronic Countermeasure) officers
into our jets. Extra Intel for you.

Got Emmiters?

For my 2 cents, I liked the wing spoiler to get it. I had it installed by the dealer when I took delivery 4 days ago.

I liked the wing a little more then the deck lid spoiler, but the wife said it cut into her rear window view too much. The car looks good without a spoiler and the cost is a little high for what you get, but I wanted to add a little flash to the rear end.

I've been monitoring some ebay auctions on TL wing spoilers. If your intrested, I could email you the install instructions (.pdf). Drop me a message or email me @ bschott@comcast.net

I hadn’t even considered Ebay for this. I’ve been buying photo and movie equipment there for years, but I didn’t think about car parts. I guess I failed to mentioned that I’m having the car configured with the deck lid spoiler.

Good pics, rets! If any car would show off the spoiler best, black is it ...

My opinions (YOMV):

If you really have to have a spoiler, the wing spoiler doesn't look too bad. Depending on your seat height, it looks like it may affect your rear view a bit.

The deck lip spoiler is so subtle, I sure hope that you don't have to pay more than $50 for it - It doesn't seem to add that much to the already excellent lines of the car.

My pleasure danno.
Salute back to you for supporting the troops.
Was in the Navy, now working at what was
"TRW Space & Technology."

I've got to be honest about the wing issue:
The Wing looks like crap for the TL,
the LIP (parasitic drag looking thing) is a good touch.

How does Acura validate the cost of the second?
There is a $100 difference, and the latter looks a lot easier/cheaper to produce and EVEN assemble onto the car!
Doublesided tape only?

IF I spent $500 on (what my wife calls a silly wing),
I would catch hell for years! It's not worth it.

Although, I have been looking at other vehicles to see what their wings look like. The Camry's isn't too shabby at all--the left edge starts flush w/the trunk, rises about 3 inches, carries over paralleling the trunk, and attaches to the right side. Clean LED setup too.

Maybe I will get one down the road, If someone else makes a better looking wing.
I would rather give up a little bit of drag coefficient, for better looking lines.

Making it up as I go....

Anyone have pics on a real car (non-showroom), preferrably not in black....

It's tough to gauge how a car looks just by some dimly lit showroom pics

I really like the decklid spoiler, but agree that it's overpriced. I don't like the wing spoiler at all.

To some it might....personal taste. So I guess it's not for you. I happened to like it and got it on my TL (and I'm glad I did).

I was in the same camp as most of you but the wife insisted that she wanted a wing. I bought one from ebay and installed it myself in about 2 hours. I could not bring myself to spending between $500 and $600 for an installed factory wing.

The wing I purchased was painted to match and is a factory knockoff. I can't see where the factory wing could possibly be any better than the ebay wing. Total cost for the wing was $217 ("buy now" price). The merchants name is Bret Anderson. I ordered it 12-22 and it arrived on 1-4. Here is a picture. Its on a black car without the other body kit items. If you would like some info on the install, PM me and I will provide info if I can.

I didn't think I would like the wing on the car but I was wrong!

On the Acura supplied wing spoiler, there is no integrated brake light, which I think is a little strange on something that lists for $499 plus installlation!!!

What am I missing here? Why would they try to save money on something that is already priced so high?

I don't know if it is more about saving money than it is about looks as the interior mounted break light is high on the glass and it would look funny to have two breaklights, one on the spoiler and one in the glass. Normally, from what I have seen, the spoilers that have breaklights mask out the rear deck mounted lights (as in the old 2nd Gen TL) which are then disabled. My .02.

IMO , The wing is a little ricey, it has no value improving performance. But if you like it, you like it . Have fun, drive safe
and happy new year.
