windshield fluid sprays too high 3G Garage #K-043

Can windshield fluid spray be adjusted?

What's up people,

My very first post, not a super interesting one, but haven't read anything on it and was wondering if anyone else experienced this. Does anyone else experience the windshield fluid spray too high and gets on the roof of the car? Is there anything that can be done about that?

Yes, mine spray very high and hit the top of the windshield/roof area. I actually forgot one day that my sunroof was open and got a little wet =(.

It still cleans the winshield fine though.

They had to adjust it so when you go over 100 mph the water still hits the windshield. If you lower it so that it doesn't go all over the roof, at any normal highway speeds it will be blown down and not clear the windshield properly.

The service manual doesn't say there is any way to adjust them, but some people said if you stick a small screwdriver or paper clip in the nozzle hole, you can adjust it up or down a little bit. Proceed at your own risk!

Use a pin and stick it in the nozzle to adjust it.

Thanks for the tip.

Mine actually hits the rear window; too bad we don't have rear wipers! ;-)

When I took delivery of my car and the dealer was showing me how everything worked, he mentioned that the washer sprays in a fan style that covers the windshield. He said that this prevents it from over-spraying and getting more on the cars behind you than on the windshield. He didn't demonstrate because the car was freshly washed.

I used it for the first time the other day and noticed the same thing you mentioned. It covered the windshield well, but also the roof. And the driver behind me turned on his wipers, so I must have sprayed him too. I don't mind though. Even if it didn't spray the roof, the dirty fluid wiped off of the windshield is going to get all over the car anyway.

I used a small screwdriver...if you look carefully you can see a small slit in the middle.

Invention slated for ridiculously high end cars:

Windshield washers that automatically adjust thier spray height depending on the speed you are going lol

or I have seen ones that are built onto the actual wiper blades, and spray in front of it as it moves up.

Someone forward my genius idea to acura, lol.

Having it spray a little bit high is a great way to get rid of tailgaters--hit your windshield washer and some of the fluid will hit the windshield of the car behind you, which will usually cause the driver to slow slightly, not so much because he realizes what you're doing but because the water startled him.

I had that on an old Ford many moons ago. The problem was that the rubber hose to feed them was completely exposed all the time and they tended to freeze up much easier than other systems.

Oh I had never seen one in detail. I just saw it on a car driving on the road once and said to myself 'now thats new" but now I see what you mean and why it wouldn't be widely used. No point in having it if it freezes up!!

It would be nice and I dont see any problems if you lived in a sunbelt state though. Seems like it conserve more fluid because its only spraying areas needed... and not the car behind you, haha.

I put a bit of tape over the upper portion of the sprayer to keep it from going too high

mine used to spray over the car when I first got it, even at speed. I mentioned it and they "adjusted" it.. right into the wiper arm so none of it hit until the arm was at the top, then it just squirted at the base of the windshield and bounced off and all over the place. Then they adjusted it back up, and over the car again. Then it got plugged. Now it just squirts onto the wiper arm and drips all over. don't recall my 00 TL doing that and it was hood hidden jets.

As for spraying over to get tailgaters, flicking a penny out of the sunroof with your thumb (so you don't make any arm motions) works well too.

Ha! Next time I get a speeding ticket, I'll just tell the judge, "Your honor, I was going 120 because I needed to wash my windshield and at less than 100 the spray just hits the roof. "

I noticed it is a little high on my 04 TL, but I've been too lazy to adjust it. A ballpoint pen works well. I once owned a 99 Grand Am that had the rubber hose in the wiper system. I lived in Texas and it worked fine. I drove to upstate NY for Christmas, and couldn't wash my windshield until I got back south of Ohio.

Mine sprays over the top as well.

I used to get sooo PO'd when someone would use their sprayers and it flew over their car and hit mine. Now I'm one of those people!!!

Maybe in time I will adjust them but right now the car is still too new to mess with them... besides... I haven't really gotten over having to drill holes into the pristeen paint on the trunk lid when I installed the wing spoiler.

Nah man the dudes who prep the cars dont prep them right... Acuras "crew" are a bunch of slackers they need to be shown shit thats common sense that has to be done............. anyways I was watching a TL get prepped one day and these guys are serious dicks they dont give 2 shits about these cars they rip through them so they can quickly deliver the shit boxes.....its a shame.... I saw their prep checklist too and one of the things they HAVE to do is adjust the spray height of the nozzles.....its funny
