Window Tinting and Moleskin - Need to know info
Ok looked up a thread over at Acura World and it got me thinking. WTF is moleskin used for with window tinting. And also what are the issues/problems that occur when moleskin is not used.
I was quoted for a $265 tint job that has the ceramic tint and not the metallic shit. I would like to ask them some questions but I would like to be informed on right way tinting on our cars should be done and if it includes moleskin.

Well it seems I can't get the link to work properly. In the meantime I think I answered my own question by looking up Tintprotector thread and their website.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=moleskin+tint
http:///acura/index.htm
Ok for the people that used the Tintprotector kit I assume this is a very easy DIY. Should this be done before or after tinting?

This is my input on moleskin....
I've originally installed them. Some came out, so I've removed all of them.
I do not have ANY scratches... I've been moleskin free for months. Keep your interior clean and dust free, and you will not have a problem.
I still have the moleskin tape, I may re-apply it in the summer, as our windows tend to stay open more. We'll see...

By design, the wipers inside the door of our cars press hard against the glass. They also accumulate a lot of sand, soot and other debris while driving. When you apply tint, this debris can and most likely will scratch your tint based on the above combination.
When I installed my tint I didn't use the Moleskin. After rolling my windows down less than 5 times, I had large scratches on my tint. I then broke down and bought the Moleskin. When I disassembled my door panels to remove the wipers, I couldn't believe the amount of crap that was stuck in the wiper channels. It quickly explained the scratches on the tint.
I recommend buying the moleskin and following the instructions to the tee. The only problem I've seen with them is that the edges of the material sometimes rolls over onto itself and the adhesive glue streaks your tint. This happened to me and was easily cleaned off with Goo Gone.

Stock felt? I didn't see any felt when I had my door panels off. As far as roughing up. You take some sand paper and rough up the rubber edges where you are going to stick the moleskin so it adheres better.

There is no stock felt, just the rubber swipes. A tip for anybody installing the moleskin themselves, which is very simple by the way. Wait until after you have the windows tinted to do the moleskin. I didn't really think about it when I did mine and installed it before taking the car for tint. The tinting process can compromise the adhesion of the felt to the window swipes. I had problems with glue streaking after having my tint installed (search and you will find a lot of people have had this happen although the causes claim to vary). I ended up replacing the drivers door felt and haven't had a problem since. I still need to do a couple other doors but waiting for warmer weather. If you do get the moleskin and have issues, just contact flnsx (tint protector), and he'll take care of you. Excellent customer service.
