Window tint question
Window tint question
Hey guys, just bought my first TL and want to get a quality tint job. I have no idea what to look for, I have seen some terrible tint jobs and want to make sure I find somewhere that uses quality product. What should I ask for when calling local tint places? Also, what % of tint looks the best on TL's? I included a pic of my car, I am thinking 35% all the way around, but not sure. If you could post a pic of your ride with the percentage of tint it has that would be very helpful
I am personally a fan of 35% tint all around (except windshield obviously). I like 35 because it's dark enough that's its effective and looks awesome, but not too dark that it's hard to see out of at night. It also doesn't look like ghetto dark. Sorry for guys with black windows but I just don't like the look. Lastly is that it's legal in my state.
Some things to watch for is make sure you find a good tinter that will tint your rear quarter windows fully. Most shops will leave the part behind the rubber seal untinted claiming they can't get in there. That is total BS and any quality tinter will do the job right. If they don't tint that section it looks weird from outside and is kinda noticeable.
Another thing to watch for is vertical scratches in the film over time from lowering and raising the windows. The rubber seal collects dirt and debri and will scratch your film. The fix if your anal and don't want any scratches whatsoever you will have to cover the rubber seals with felt. It's a pretty easy job and is a DIY. Just buy a sheet if felt from any fabric store, remove the door panels, and tightly wrap each rubber seal with the felt. Problem solved! A lot of guys talk about moleskin, but that stuff uses adhesive which I have heard comes off into the tint and just sounds like a not so great way to do it. My DIY method has been working flawlessly and cost like 3 bucks.
Here are pics of my 07 S with 35% all around. Love it!

18% is nice and dark and still has great visibility at night.

They missed my rear quarter panel and didn't do the brake light so ill eventually be getting it redone

^^That car is sexy man!! Has it rolled 10k miles yet? OP, JTS pretty much nailed it. 35% looks good. You might want to check your local laws to make sure it's legal. Just FYI some states(Virginia) 50% is the legal limit on the front windows so 35% would be illegal.

I had 10% on my IS300 and you couldn't see in at all even in the sun. That tint started getting bubbles after 7 years so I went with 15% and it seemed perfect. You could see in a little but not a whole lot. I had black interior with that car as well.
The TL has 50% on the windshield, 40% on the rear window and 50% on the side windows. I thought about peeling it and going darker but the tint job was done so nicely by 1thomas1 that I'm going to leave it for the time being.
