Window tint

took my TL to a tint shop earlier today get it tinted.
pulled up and asked the guy how much it would be.
He tells me that theres already tints on my windows and that it would need to be removed and re-tinted which would run me $250.
I had no idea there was tint on my windows.
Can someone verify that there is tint or no tint on my windows?
This is how it looks in the garage. I thought that was just how the factory glass looked like. in the sun it looks like a fish bowl glass.

You have tints but not a very dark shade. When you roll down the window some you will be able to see the edge of the film

Definetly tinted just have them tint over it haha like 40 on 40 comes out to uhh 20-25% cheaper now but I'll probably peel off and cost more later if not strip your own tint or find some where with better pricing I paid 200 to tint the whole car including wind shield

It's really easy to remove it yourself. Only part that you need to careful with is the rear window and just go slowly, then clean it up to save on labor charges. Also checkout Craigslist for window tint folks. Lots of mobile companies that are cheap and do great work

Looks tinted to me and that price is kind of high for tint with removal. Unless it's one of those fancy types of tint.

He his, that's how our lot guys remove it. We take tints off all our cars for some reason. I guess just in case it's illegal tint we're not held liable.

$250 is a little on the high side. I paid $120 and it was done by a local shop. My brother had his tinted for $175 but it was laser cut, the tint is near perfect on his

Also, when you get it tinted, make sure they do the small side window completely. Some will not tuck it under the rubber correctly and leave a small gap which you can see from outside.

it seems to be tinted a very light shade. The price your paying isn't bad for them to take it off and re tint. With our cars the door panels have to come off to be done the right way so theres no scratching in the film. I personally have a close friend that is doing my whole car+ my windshield for $150...

You may also want to have them install moleskin to prevent scratches.

I got all of the tints off my windows. I got the glue residue off on all the passenger and driver windows. I haven't touched the rear window yet because I'm afraid to screw up the defrost lines using the razor method. any recommendations on how to clean the clue residue off the rear window?
My neighbor down the street is going to do my windows for $160? I think that's what he told me on the phone. He has 30 years of experience.

Legal in Arizona is 35%, but I'm probably going to do 20% all around.
Have you guys gotten in any trouble for having dark tints?

ill give you a little hint and its how i did mine and worked like a champ. when you go to do it, take a big black contractor bag, cut it to the size of the back window on the outside. once youve done that, take windex, dirtex, invisible glass and soak both the glass and black bag and stick it to the inside of the windshield.

sit the car in the sun for 30 mins to an hour you can run the rear defroster too if you want but remember it only runs for 10 minutes i think, then pick at the edge of the window until you get a good grip on the tint. Pull gently and slowly from the corner and the tint and all the glue with come off at one time. dont pay for someone to do this and my rear defroster still works like new

You want to make sure you use an ammonia based cleaner. The ammonia breaks the glue down. Sick TLS is right this is the easiest way to get it done on the cheap just takes some time.

I got all of the residue off the other day using Windex with Ammonia and steel wool to scrub the rear window without damaging the defrosters.
My neighbor just finished tinting my car and it looks great!
He used 18% tint all around. Charged me only $140. Usually he charges $169.95
That small window on the rear passengers, how do we tuck the tint under the rubber?
He didn't want to pull on the rubber and fuck it up, so he told me he just had to do it the way it looks.
He said he'll re-do it later if I want to as well if I can remove the rubber padding.

I know, the car needs a car wash. Needs a buff too..
He noticed there was "overspray" on the car
not sure how it happened.

Looks great except he didn't tint behind the seal and he cut around the third brake light.

technically its illegal (at least here in va) if you cant clearly see the indicator from 500 feet back. tint shops are not allowed to tint over the rear brake light from what the tinter told me but i told him to do it anyway

I'm a window tinter an the quarter windows are not that hard to tint all the way up just some people are scared to do it. I tint all the way up on the quarters with out taking anything apart or damaging anything. The key is a lot of water and make sure it's clean as possible. The third brake light cover comes off easy.

No offense, but it looks like a $140 tint job to me. As Tinteduptls stated, he should have been able to tint onto the third brake light and also inside on the rear quarters....

Also, $250 as originally stated was not a bad quote as long as it was a reputable shop.

$250 is a bit over priced. Last car I had , had tint on the windows , I paid $200 total to have the tint removed and then retinted and added a windsheild strip as well. That was in 20%

Then when I got my TL , I brought it back to them and I paid $190 for it to be tinted in 15% on all the side windows and 10% on the rear and a 5% windsheild strip down to the AS1 marks. They did it the right way as well, took off my door panels and went all the way to the edges , same with the quarters went under the rubber. They took off the cover to my 3rd brake light and tinted all the way up on the window then reinstalled it .

But if your happy with the way it looks , then thats all that counts . In the end , its "your car" and you mod it the way you want .

^ here in MN they are not allowed to tint over the 3rd brake light unless there is a spoiler on the car and the 3rd brake light is not being used.

I have a question for you guys. I am getting my tl's tinted tomorrow and the tint guy told me not to do the front strip bc it won't look right. I don't know why this would be. He said that on the tl's they never do the front. What do you guys think? I think I like the front tinted.

i like having the front done, but honestly, if the guy is telling you it wont look right, he probably isnt comfortable doing it. I would take your car elsewhere. Any reputable tint shop should have no problem tinting the windshield to the AS1 line

Our windshield already has a factory "brow" which many people add to their cars when its not already there from the factory

I would not tint the windshield...besides being illegal, its also pretty dangerous...good luck seeing clearly at night when its pouring outside

its not illegal to tint to the as1 line. thats what its there for. Some people like having it darker (like me) do i dont have to rely on the sun visors. Plus its nice that you can still see through the tint to see traffic lights, etc vs the visors you either have to move or look underneath to see
