Window Tint ???
I just picked up my new TL and want to tint the windows. I have used LLumar (Plat Plus) in the past but came across Huper Optik film. Huper Optik seems to have better heat rejection but I have never heard of this film. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about Huper Optik and how does it compare to LLumar products?

I have Llumar 20% metal film, not P.Plus, on my 5 windows and just had Huper Optiks put on my windshield and sun roof on the 11th. Huper is great stuff. From inside you can hardly tell it's there, but from the outside it does have a slight reflectiveness to it like the P.Plus. I had the windshield done cause I still had lots of heat coming in after going with 20% Llumar on the other 5 windows. Now the car is very nice inside on bright sunny days. Very noticable difference. I leave the sun roof cover open now as the sun does NOT heat the top of my head and neck area. The Huper at night takes the 'edge' off bright headlights too. You don't have to look away from oncoming traffic. The owner of the shop that did it asked if I had skin cancer or something cause they really don't like to put anything on the windshield. BTW, I got Ceramic 40. I wasn't sure that would cut it, but so glad I didn't go darker. Very, very nice results. Paid $160 for windshield and $50 for sun roof.

JBX35 - Thanks for the input. IMO - The Plat Plus from LLumar is too silver to put on a silver car. I've read a few things about Huper and one negative comment was made. To dry the film, high heat is applied. This sometimes leads to a "ghosting" effect on the film. Have you experienced this? How about your windshield. Any distortion at night?
Yes, tinting the windshield is so very illegal. So is 20% tint on the other windows and no license plate on the front of the car. It's about looks and it looks hot, and now feels cool. My tint has had NO effect on radio or alarm reception. Don't have navi. Like I said, the shop owner didn't want to do it and I paid a pretty penny to get it and could have to rip it off at anytime, but those are the risks you take for the look you want.
The Huper and other films is first applied to the outside of the window, heat shrunk and cut for proper fitment and then the film is seperated from the backing material and applied on the inside. Don't let the heat thing worry you. There was a 'fog' on the window for a couple of days until it dried. It takes heat from the sun to dry the adhesive and the Huper blocks so much heat it can take several days to dry. Once dry, it is crystal clear. The sunroof actually took a few days longer to dry out.
I would not hesitate to do all the windows with Huper if you can afford it. It is so nice. I didn't want to spend that much nor did I want that reflective look all over. The darker you go, ie Ceramic 30, the more reflective. 40 turned out to be just perfect. It 'almost' looks factory. One thing you have to think about, at least in Missouri, is inspection stickers on the inside of the windshield. Every two years you need one and the guys at the stations take a razor scraper to the old ones. The tint shop said to bring my car by before I go for the inspection and they would remove the old stickers, and save the film from destruction.
