Will the hood fit in the trunk?

I am going to be picking up a new hood next week, I was wondering if it will fit in the trunk of our 3G TL or inside the backseats? Seems like it would but I don't want to drive 120 miles and find out I was wrong.

Thanks!

The topic title made me laugh.

It definitely won't fit in the trunk, and I doubt it will fit in the backseat. The only place it might fit is on top of the car, but you would need to put a tarp or something over it so the wind doesn't get under it. That would be a weird ride home though.

I can't rent a uhaul . I am not of age and its too far to drive a truck.

The no hood solution looks good, but I am not sure if you guys are playing or not, didn't see red text :P.

If its a sunny day any problems with driving with no hood? Just wondering lol. I will do that for sure!.

Not sure why that was red texted because U-Haul does have pickup trucks that can be rented out.

My suggestion would be to first ask family and/or friends if they're willing to lend you their truck. If none own a pickup, then go to U-Haul with someone who meets their requirements for rental.

Do what Shark says. He's not joking. That's the cheapest, easiest, and best solution.

I mean you'll be taking it off anyway...

Putting a hood on and getting it aligned is no easy task. Improper alignment and/or bump stopping could cause it to warp on the drive home. Be sure you're up to the task before trying this and bring friends...

If your drive involves any highway/high-speed driving you would be crazy to consider not wearing a hood. If it's all street driving, it shouldn't be a problem. I can't see it being very good for the car though...

I thought the hood just bolts on, how can it "warp", this sounds very scary lol.

Why exactly do you assume driving with no hood on the highways is bad, but city isn't a problem?

I never removed or know anything about aligning the front bumper... Maybe that's what I need to do. There's a slight gap at my drivers front hood where it meets the front beak grill.. It kind of makes the hood look like it's not closed all the way when viewed from the drivers side.

Can anyone explain how to correctly align it? Anyone have scans for hood removal / install?

I'm no mechanic so I have no idea. I'm just logistically thinking that highway speeds would cause a lot of turbulence under the hood that might not be good for the components. But what do I know

Technically you'd be fine but just remove the plastic engine covers and panels. As wind can get up under those and rip them off since they would be exposed. The first thing you need to check on really if it's legal in the first place. Remember now if you're driving w/o the hood on everything is exposed to the chance of debris hitting something and causing a problem. Just be sure of it all before you go and do it.

Step 1: remove hood
Step 2: remove plastic pieces
Step 3: tape trash bags all over the existing hood hole.

Wouldn't the heat from the engine melt the plastic trash bags?

Agreed - aligning the hood isn't easy at all.

In our auto body class it took a good amount of time to adjust the hood on the Chevy Nova..

That's an old car though lol

^ No, just buy the hefty brand.

But seriously he will have no problem driving with it exposed, just remove the plastics.

I's say remove the back seat and the hood might fit back there then.

i agree. if you can fit it through the door then with no back seat i dont see why it wouldnt fit. driving without a hood just doesnt seem like a good idea to me

^^^ this, and definatly remove plastic underhood covers. anything that can be ripped off by wind, will be ripped off, and probably hit something expensive.

I would be curious to know how much this affects your mpg though. if you do this, please keep track there and back and let us know.

edit: just took a tape measure to the hood to see if it would fit in back seat. I wouldnt try it. hood is roughly 61x48" at its widest spots. if you did manage to get it back there, youd fuck it up somehow.

The hood spans practically the entire width of the car. No chance in hell of it fitting anywhere but where it's supposed to go.

No mechanical problems with driving with the hood off. I've done much worse than that when I was young.

idk why you guys have trouble aligning the hood properly. when i picked up my CF hood, it literally took 5 mins to take my OEM hood off and put the CF hood on. done.

I also have no idea why people are freaking out about driving without a hood. As stated, just remove the plastic covers so they don't get blown off. It is completely fine. People sure like to make a big deal out of nothing.

There isn't any problem driving on the frwy without a hood, besides your gas mileage taking a little hit, all part of the aerodynamics. Like they said above just remove the plastic engine covers. I drove 200 miles on the frwy without a hood on my Civic Si when the hood was being repaired and repainted and everything was fine. Definitely bring a buddy to help put the hood on though, helps having extra hands, its a little awkward holding the hood and trying to get the bolts in.

I drove my old Prelude 30 miles on the highway with no hood and open header. Lol

It may have been illegal but it def doesn't hurt anything.

And aligning hoods being difficult? That's not my experience...

I drove my other car with no front clip, just a huge intercooler hanging off the core support. No bumpers, headlights, turn signals, etc. That was the bad part about trying to race your daily driver, I still had to drive it to work if I didn't finish a project.
