Why should I buy a new 3rd Gen 3.2TL?

I'm a 1st Gen 3.2TL owner thinking of buying a new 3rd Gen 3.2TL. I like the 1st Generation 3.2TL, except for the high cost of repairs ($650 for a starter, $1100 for a timing belt, $315 for a bearing, etc.)

If I buy a 2006 3.2TL, what time of surprise expenses should I be prepared for?

Also, I'm thinking about a Navigation System - any regrets from those of you who either bought it or chose not to?

Well everyone here with a 3rd gen is still under warantee...so I don't think anyone has had any suprise expenses at the moment.

I have no regrets on having the navi...i love it!

Well, any issues with the new car (rattles, vibrations) will all be fixed under warranty. Only cost there is time and gas to go to the dealership.

As for Navigation, I am sooooooooo glad I got it with mine. I have a terrible sense of direction when it comes to remembering where to go in metro areas. The navigation is 99% correct and it comes in handy when you want to find a gas station or a restaurant in a town you don't know . GET IT!

i love my TL, and as far as the navigation, it completely MAKES the car. without it it look barren to me. and I know this sounds stupid. but on the non-navi I hate the little H M S buttons to set the clock. it looks cheap and cheesy to me. Navi is the only way to go. Plus you'll have that nifty iPod integration with voice control...

i almost considered trading in my 2 month TL just for that functionality....

...almost.

the ipod integration is an option that cost around $250 plus installation avaliable in Dec. It does not come as a standard feature. I think the integration can be put in to the 05 and 04. I think the 06 should come with an auxiliary jack like in the 06 tsx. The ipod integration is only compatible with ipods, not with other mp3 players.

Love the Navi. I didn't like the previous gen TLs because they looked old manish, but this one has a nice hot look. Does anyone know about TPMS on the 06?

You cant get it without navi, it's a rule.

As for the Ipod integration, if it is available I will DEFINITELY be paying for it. Where did you get that information?

It was in one of the threads i forgot which one. But I'm not sure it if it can be installed on the 04 and 05's. I just think its possible because the 06 is not any different except for having the TPMS.

If your mileage is consistant, it will take 10 years+- to get to where you are now. Your warranty should last 4-5 of those years = minimal surprise expenses all things being equal.

Today, I was in a strange town and needed to make a direct deposit to my checking account. It took less than a minute with my navi to locate the closest branch. Ask me what I think of the Navi! I don't have it on my 02 MDX and have been looking for additional reasons to trade it in.

I sold my 94 Legend w/150k for the reasons you are thinking of trading. My decision was a good one.

No offense to the older acuras but the 3rd gen looks about 10 times better That's a good reason right there, but there are a lot of other great reasons too.

Edit: I got the navi after some consideration and even as a "gadget" person I love the navi. It's up to any standard... power, ease of use, functionality, design etc. You will go places you didn't really dare to (great in cities), and find new places you never thought of.

Unless they replaced OEM tires - be prepared to get dump 'em for better ones. IN probably gets a decent amount of snow, so you might need snow tires.

The 3G TL is still a Honda/Acura... you won't really have any unusual maint. cost.

If you buy he 3g expect to have avg repairs.... The brakes are more prone to problems and I am sure you know about the rubber. The only item that was mentioned that might be out of the ordinary for a repair was the starter. The timing belt has to be replaced at 105K (do not have manual in front of me). As for the bearing... I assume you mean wheel bearing? That is about normal.

I know the car is not waranteed to 105k miles, so if the timing belt goes before than, even off the warrenty, is it covered as acura tells you it is unneccary to replace before than?

TL's with NAV get Michelins - Standard, I think A-Spec's get Summer tires; regular non-navi TL's get Bridgestones. If you get Bridgstones, plan on replacing them ASAP.

What problems are the breaks prone to? I have had no problems, knock on wood; however, I have only been an owner for five months, 2400 miles.

Well, that's a very subjective issue.

I have a '98 3.2 and an '05 3.2. As for performance and technology, the '05 is such an amazing car. I will never buy a car WITHOUT navigation again.

My '98 has such a smooth ride and more comfortable on long trips. The ONLY problem I have with my 1st gen is that there are barely any aftermarket parts available for it.

Wait a while.. 2400 is nothing... and if you read the forum you will see that there are a lot more brake issues reported on the 3G over the 2G.
