So after months of researching and finally going to the dealership, Acura of Libertyville has pushed me away from ever buying an Acura.
I spent 3 hours negotiating price (buying 2 TL's, me and my business partner) got insulted and ended up leaving. Here's what happened:
1) When salesman asked how much I wanted to pay I said $32,900 (with Navi), his response "so you want my kids to starve??" I thought this was pretty rude, if you can't sell the car at a profit you won't sell it, don't try to make me feel bad.
2) All of a sudden the price is okay and he talks to his manager. Manager comes out we talk and suggests that i purchase the car without navigation, and buy a handheld unit to put on my dash????? I was about to kick his butt. I could pay cash for both cars and it wouldn't even dent me, don't try to insult me.
3) I said I had a budget and wanted to stay under a certain amount of money a month, so they said they'd work with me on the price to get me in the car that night. Comes back, doesn't lower the price, but tries to get me on a 84 month payment plan?????? Then tries to tell me that it's a good deal and that i won't be paying much more in interest than a 5 year loan (adding insult to injury).
Needless to say, I'm now talking to someone at Lexus, and am going to wait until september to purchase a new IS.
I love acura, but because of 2 of their employees I will never purchase one again. If this is how the sales people treat customers, I can't imagine what service would be like. And apparently they are one of the best acura dealerships 4 years in a row or some crap like that.
Sorry about the long rant, just had to vent. Goodbye TL hello IS.

Sorry about your experience but just keep in mind that the salemen are not Acura employees. They are employees of the dealership. Why don't you try a different dealership? If that is the car that you want somebody will work with you to get you in the car.
Dragging knees in
That sucks; had a similiar experience at an Infinity dealership. The guy said "come back with your dad."
However, don't let that stop you from buying an Acura. I mean, it's totally not Acura's fault that the sales staff is rude. I had a GREAT buying experience from my Acura dealership, but that doesn't mean I'll only buy Acuras from now on.
Good luck.

Did you know there are at least 10 Acura Dealership within a 50 mile radius of Libertyville Acura? It took me 5 dealers, 2 weeks of emails and phone calls to get the deal I wanted for my Acura. I spent 1 hour at the dealer getting my paperwork done once the negotiations were complete. In the end the car was worth the time and effort. Don't give up that easy. Beside, you'll end up paying over MSRP sticker for the IS when it comes out.

I'd complain to the dealership president or sales manager. Don't let this block you from buying an Acura.
Try another dealer.

Sorry about that negative buying experience. I would have informed their GM about their sales tactics. But do not give up on your dream car because of these low lives! Other dealerships would probably be more ethical. Just make sure that you check out the car carefully for those possible annoying rattles and minor defects which might still be there before you sign. Good hunting!!

Sorry to hear that. I certainly can empathize with your frustration. Keep in mind that those two jerks were the dealer's salespeople and you should try another dealership.
I suggest you go via the Internet sales folks at a dealership. I did this by using InvoiceDealers.com (no obligation). The very next day, I got an email from someone at a nearby Acura dealership. I ended up buying my TL from them in Mar-05.
BTW, prior to going this route I went to one Acura dealership but they only wanted to sell the TL at full list. The guy wasn't willing to cut any sort of deal whatsoever!
Was I pissed? No. I just went to someone else and found one who was hungrier for my business.
Good luck!

Yeah, I got exactly the opposite service at Los Gatos Acura.. I went in, young lookin' with my PAPER license (I just got my license 10 days prior to buying the car), and never once did the sales person (internet sales mgr/fleet mgr) made me feel small or unimportant. Great buying experience.

I had the same experience. The first dealer i went to told me that my offer was laughable and that i would never get that car for that price. He also told me that he oculdnt find one and i wouild have to wait 3 months for one. I left there went to another place told them my price and what i wanted. Got it in three days....And i took the car back to the original dealer just so show the jerk that i got exactly what i wanted for the price i wanted.

Did you bring this cocky attitude when you went in? This might be why you felt the "dis-resepcted you"
Mike
I had an experience where an Acura dealership sold the car I had a verbal deal on when I was on my way to pick it up. The salesman called me on my cell phone. I just drove to another Acura dealership and got the car I wanted and dealt with a great salesman.
I still take my TL to the bad dealership for service. The service is great (The salesmen don’t work on the cars).

I didn't pay cash because I'd rather invest my money in other things that make money. How is this a cocky attitude??? Just because I'm financially confident I'm cocky??? And the answer is no, I didn't even mention that I can buy it cash.Originally Posted by te3point5

The financing probably has to do with the fact that its being purchased for business use (you cant right off the entire car in the first year, there's no incentive to pay cash). Originally Posted by te3point5

Also if ur purchasing two at once I'd think u should be able to do better than 32900.
Anyways good luck with the lexus (go for the gs instead)

Thank You,
I might consider if the IS is too small.

If the TL is what you really, really, really wanted and you had your heart set on it then you would not give up so easily and would go find another dealership. However if you just thought the TL might be a nice car for your business and you had the IS as your 2nd choice and could really care less then go for it.

not all the dealerships are the same regardless of the brand they sell
i sent out an e-mail with detailed questions about the price, options, rates etc.
every question had a number
only one out of 5 dealers answered every question in the list without giving me "come in for a test drive" BS
that's the one i went with
no problems, no hassles
the only price i had to negotiate was extended warranty
frankly i can't even say what i enjoy more the car or the service that dealership provides

Some people have bad days, some are assholes, etc. Grudges don't do crap for anyone. If you like the TL get it, so what if the guy was a dick, as long as you are able to get the deal you want. If you are truly never going to get the car you wanted because of two people you are gonna have a lot of trouble later on in life. I heard the IS will be good, so have fun with that(if it is what you really want).

Try a different dealer man. I had the same issue with the Acura dealer near my house (Acura Carland). My salesman wanted to charge me sticker for an 04, and it was the middle of November. He wouldn't budge on the price so I decided to take my business elsewhere (Ed Voyles) and ended up getting an 05 for under MSRP.
I am sure another dealer would be more than willing to earn your business.

I am not an expert in this, but sometimes if the price is too aggressive and they wouldn't budge, they know they need to kick you out so you are not wasting time there. Not an insult to you, but my company do this to our customer as well if they are too cheap.
Sounds like they just try to kick you out so they can catch a bigger fish. Don't take it personal, I know many dealership that are like that, they all do.

Dang.
That really sucks about your experience and I understand why it left a sour taste in your mouth when it comes to Acura. If I were you, whether or not you're still considering a TL (as long as it doesn't come from that specific dealership), I would let Acura know about your bad experience. Even though it was a frustrating situation, I'd make sure not to be the angry crazed customer on the phone - it seems that being nice to the customer service rep means that they are more understanding and willing to help then if they're being yelled at for something that some other jackass did. I'm not inferring that you would be that kind of person, but in a case like this, I'd find it hard to keep my cool. Maybe something good will come out of it and they'll pull some strings with a different dealership to give you the numbers you want. You never know unless you try.
But if you've got your heart set on that IS, then that's an awesome choice, too.
I know my boyfriend's father will never buy MB b/c of some salesman who told him that "he cannot afford" a car before talking any numbers with him. You can't say what you would do until you're in that situation that you feel like someone insults you personally. I feel the same way about the salesman that look at me as a woman and the first question out of their mouth is "What color do you want?"
Doesn't matter b/c I'm not buying it from you! Good luck with whichever way you choose!

i dont know much about the IS, i'm sure its a very fine car. but doesnt the TL have much more power, room, and options for much less $? after driving the TL for a few months, i feel like it has turbo boosters. i bet i'd leave an IS in the dust. did you try out the infinity g35?

I bought my TL over the phone. The first internet manager I talked to was a jerk so I decided to drive to a dealer who was farther away but appreciated my business. There's really no reason to pass up a quality car over one bad dealership experience.

The Acura dealership I went to was top notch. I did get into it with the GSM the night before picking up my car. I was talking with the Internet manager and e had just come to a deal. I asked him to email it over so I could have it in writing. He told me no, absolutely not, but didn't give me a reason. I asked to speak with the GSM and he told me that he would absolutely not put it in writing. I explained I would be traveling 2 hours to his dealership and I didn't want a bait and switch or misunderstandings when I got there. He still said no, "I will not put it in writing. This is the price, and you've heard it straight from the GSM. If you don't trust me, don't buy the car from us."
So, I decided I'd give it a shot and told him okay. About 5 minutes later I received a call from somebody getting my info so they can have the paperwork ready for me when I arrived.
All in all, it was a great experience. Niello Acura in Sacramento definitly is a class-act dealership and did exactly what they said they were going to do.
There are good people out there... Its unfortunate you were buying a $30k+ car from a salesman who probably used to sell Kia's. Try a dealership who knows how to treat a customer whose buying a $30k+ car (or two of them) with the respect they deserve. They are out there.

I bought my '05 TL from David White at Libertyville Acura. Overall it was a good experience except for the sales manager. Insulting and without any social skills at all. I would never deal directly with him. I think he's a liability to that dealership.

Understand that auto dealers are just like the neighborhood 7-11 but with different merchandise. There is one around the corner from me where I don't like the owners, I avoid it most of the time. There is another a few blocks in the other direction where they see me everyday. Adjust and move on, don't let stupid people ruin your plan.

Have you considered purchasing your car out of state? That's what I had done after I had contacted every dealer via email in my state as well as surrounding states. Some of them didn't want to deal with me and gave me the usual sales jargon that you'd hear so often from other consumers. The only place that didn't give me any lip and came VERY close to what I had agreed to pay was our official Acura vendor, DCH Montclair Acura.
Despite some of the shady tactics by some of those Acura salesmen, it didn't stop me from getting the car I've been lusting after for over a year. And those guys at Montclair Acura are very professional and courteous.

I'm sorry, but if you go to a dealership to negotiate a price, you are either inexperienced or just ignorant. There is so much information on the "preferred" way to purchase vehicles and enough ammo out there to negotiate prior to even setting foot into a dealership.
here's a clue. Dealerships are out to get a sale. Making a profit is secondary. WHY? Because the more vehicles they sell, the more they get from the manufacturer. Get the dealerships to compete against each other.
Took me 2 days, 15 faxes, and 4 phone calls to get my 2005 TL w/ navi in the color I wanted for invoice. I know over 400 people that have purchased a TL in the exact same way and 1000's of others who have purchased other vehicles in a like manner. Do the research and learn how to purchase before you bash a company or a dealership because you just didn't know what to do.

I remember back in 99, i went to a pontiac dealership because i wanted a Gran Prix GTP coupe. The salesman was like oh, you can't afford that, dont waste my time. I was like what the fuck. Next thing you know he tries to push a fucking Sunfire on me. Then he has the nerve to tell me to come back with my father. Yeah i was younger, but i had a $5,000 deposit, and was ready to buy. So i told my father who had already ordered a buick for my grandpa from them. He was like fuck em, look at something else. A few days later we were driving by an acura dealership and saw a TL sitting outside. White, bodykit, navi. We checked it out and i fell in love with it. My father bought it for me, i gave him the 5 grand and paid him monthly. Anyway, i drove my dad and grandpa to the pontiac/buick dealer to pick up the buick and the salesman i delt with saw me getting out of the TL. He was like is that your father's car, is he here, you ready to get that sunfire. I was like no, you told me i couldnt afford the GTP, so i got a $35,000 TL instead. His jaw hit the floor.

Key point to remember they are employees of the Acura dealer not Honda/Acura of America. If you really like the TL go to another dealer, otherwise the IS will probably be a nice ride.

First, I am alittle skiptical about some of the people posting on this forum. For all, you could be a Lexus salesman trying to bring down Acura service, or simply someone who doesn't like Acura. If your story is true, then I would suggest you find another Acura dealership and a better salesman to talk to if you sincerely love Acura brand. Originally Posted by hashsi99

In response to the saleman's comment "so you want my kids to starve" is obviously an immature comment. I purchased my 2004 TL w/NAVI in 9/2004 for price of $32,100. Even at that price, my salesman told me he made a few hundred bucks out of it. No significantly much, but good enough to put into his quota. Keep in mind that there are plenty of bad salesman everywhere regardless of what brand the car is.

I've taken your guys' advice and have sent out for some quotes, via email. I hope that I get a response that I like. I still love the car and I was frustrated when I posted, I'm a little more relaxed now.
Oh BTW, what is invoice 32k?

However, don't let that stop you from buying an Acura. I mean, it's totally not Acura's fault that the sales staff is rude. I had a GREAT buying experience from my Acura dealership, but that doesn't mean I'll only buy Acuras from now on.
Good luck.

I didnt quite get that response, but the saleswoman (smoking a cigarette, outside, while dealing with us) told me I shouldnt get stick because "you cant drink or smoke while driving a stick shift car. We laughed, and left.
