Why are my brakes really grabby when wet?

Hey everyone. I've noticed this for a while but havent worried about it and I don't think it's anything to be worried about but like the title states my brakes are really really grabby and extremely sensitive after they're wet.. After driving for a lil they go back to normal. after it rains or after a car wash this happens. Any explanation to this? Is it normal? I've never seen this happened to any of my other cars.

Thanks for any input.

Build up of rust on rotor has a higher friction coefficient that clean rotor.

Probably what Hi Speed said. Also could be your tires I'd think.

That's what I was thinking. I sounds like the brakes are grabby while wet, not after they get wet and dry. I would say it's the type of pads.

Semi metallic have a tendency to hold moisture/create surface rust and then grab, but we'll see. Not normal with most high quality pads.

I have noticed this at the costco car wash and only at slow speed applications of the brakes. It certainly isnt rust. I think its the chemicals in the water that they are using on the wheel/undercarriage wash.

I love how you answered a question with less than 15 words that clearly makes sense and has sound scientific basis. Props.

^ yes but the rotors do not rust immediately after a rain shower or a car wash which is the circumstance that the OP was describing

Oh no, I understand the counterpoint presented later. You're correct, metal oxidation takes time. I was merely admiring the response. It seems all too often that I scroll through endless posts with no information whatsoever (kinda like this one - is that irony?)

Thanks for all the replies guys. The pads are eBay pads. just bought new pads at autozone and putting them on next weekend. The pads on the car were noisy too. Never again will I buy non brand names.

It's probably the pads but drilled rotors can make them more grabby when wet as well. Likely a combo of the two. My Rotora drilled rotors are that way and I've run two vastly different pads with them.

My original pads are still goin strong at 80K miles! ...........which I have been programmed to think they have got to be shot already! thats enough to keep me buying OEM when they are due. I think I will get the ASPEC pads though. Perhaps they will be a little more dusty and wont last as long

If it helps you to feel any better, I replaced my OEM pads around 90k and they had over 75% of the pad remaining. I only did it because I upgraded to the BBK. Otherwise it was on track to go 200k. The stock rears looked unused at that mileage. The OEM pads for the 5at are great street pads.
