Why Does This Cost So Much?

Just a curiosity. But it kind of made me wonder, "WTF?".

Another thread, discussing Engine Covers digresses breifly to Intake Manifold Covers.

'07 - '08 TL/TL-S has an unfinished IM Cover. This one:

It comes as a "system" or "kit". Part# 17140-RBK-013. Including a couple of fairly expensive items (Actuator, Gasket, etc) it's $390.

So minus, say, $140 for the misc kit parts the cover all ALONE is ~$250.

Here's the part I don't get. The '04 - '06 gets a nice, finished cover. Similar to this (only the cover, not Kennedy's custom polished manifold):

That cover costs ~$50 all alone (Part# 17115-RDA-A00).

Why does one cover cost $50 and a nearly identical one cost ~$250?

See? Kinda makes you wonder, "WTF?" or am I missing something? Just curious.

BTW - the finsihed cover is shared by all '04 - '06 TL's. The unfinished one is shared by all '07 - '08 TL's, RL's and MDX's, so it's not a small run part.

That's all I'm talking about. $250 for this part on the '07 - '08:

Nearly identical part on '04 - '06 = $50. 5x less.

Also not, my cover was refinished in black powdercoat... They come "finished" in a dull silver.

I'll never understand Honda pricing, and it's clearly an issue in the supply chain which we don't understand...

Your example is but one of many.

Honda can sell a key fob for $35 (that should cost $200)...

and then turn around and sell a $2 plastic clip for a seatbelt for $92! WTF

Kennedy you should know better, one single HID D2S bulb from honda/acura is upwards of 300 dollars where as the SAME bulb can be had for $50 new from 3rd party retailers.

I think the new covers are made of an magnesium alloy to reduce the weight added by the larger motor.

Well if that's the case, at least there is some logic to the difference. Thanks.
