I asked Acura to include it so I could play my vintage late 70's early 80's tape collection.

The engineers in Torrance are very accomodating. If there's any feature you need, just drop them a line.

x2, but my UA6 doesn't have an AUX adapter, so it's the cheapest and best sounding way to use my iPod in my car. It was actually a selling point for me.

On the other side of the coin, I still wear clothes that I've had since the early 90's, so what does that tell you about my concern of being "in the now"?

So who asked for the giant bottle opener on the front of the 4G?

Lexus GS had one to, and it costs a lot more than TL. It's not all that uncommon in some cars.

Actually, I think it has to do with the median age of the driver. I think the target age is 40-50 yrs old for a 35K+ car. Books on tape, music collection still on tape, etc.

However, judging by the median age on this board 18-23, Acura may have misjudged...

LOL, me either.

I don't mind the Tape Deck. Gives me the option of a cassette adapter.
I wish they included an Aux Input for 06.

Why are they called apartments when they're all crammed together? Why do shipments go by truck, but cargo goes by ship?

Oh, and as to the OT: I think JERU nailed it. The typical demographic for a new TL probably is into books on tape and still has a few cassettes laying around that they like to listen to.

Look at Acura's demographics for the car being sold to. I would imagine that it was 30-45 year olds. This age grew up with tapes and therefore, a tape deck doesn't seem that crazy. As for the Civic, again demographics, 18-25, these people have probably never seen music played that wasn't circular in shape and shiny.

I have worn my tape adapter out. It is making a loud crunching noise.

I like to watch movies on my iphone in the car. The 5.1 surround sound is absolutely stunning, even through a tape adapter. My favorite thing to watch is the scene from the new star trek movie when they are leaving spacedock. It sounds absolutely amazing. If you close you eyes and turn it up real loud then you can believe you are on the bridge. You can actually feel the docking clamps and moorings release. Make sure your woofer is set to to 6. It's really f'ing cool. I suggest you guys try it.

The question should be not why does it have a tape deck but why don't the 04-05s play MP3-CD or MP3-DVD? Why don't the newer models have audio over bluetooth?

I listen to my dad's old mixtapes . Also I use the IPod converter from tape deck to IPod...so I am happy they put it in there...shame on Honda for not putting it in the Civic...

I am glad that it has the tape deck. When I go on long trips with my wife she watches old movies, Simpsons, or Futurama on the computer plugged into the tape deck. It makes the time fly. I don't watch them, they become more like audio books for me. What bugs me about my 04 TL is that it seems like Acura reverse engineered it. They made the 07-08 TL and then said ok what can we take out. Lets remove the Aux jack, and the mirrors with blinkers, etc.

It's obvious that the '04-'06 models use it because of no Auxillary input in those models, so it's very functional. But the '07-'08s-no real use for it. Even for me, being a radio disc jockey, I don't use it and never have.

It's just good to see that Acura is either nostalgic or has a good sense of humor.

Same here. I actually get a kick out of telling people "I got this back in high school" when they ask me where I got a shirt or sweater from. I guess moms buying stuff a little big really paid off.
As for the tape deck, considering their focal group, they probably kept it because a number of older people, say 40s to 50's, still used them at the time. And i use mine for my ipod too

I think the cd player is already obselete. I've yet to use my car cd player. It's all about the mp3/iPod in todays society. When was the last time you saw someone carrying a cd player around? But I'm sure there are still a few people who still burn CDs for their cars. I guess I'm just not one of them, too much of hassle IMO.
