This is why dealers stink!

The last time I had my transmission fluid changed was at Pohanka Acura in VA, following the 3rd gear TSB. Well yesterday I went to change my trans fluid again, since I wanted to swap it out with the GM Synchromesh FM. When the car was on the lift, the transmission drain bolt was wet and leaking a little bit. My local mechanic friend looked at it, and thought it was strange. He turned it with his fingers and was able to take the drain bolt off without a wrench of any kind. It was FINGER-TIGHT.

Time is money at the dealership. Be careful.

And I will tell you that Pohanka Acura has pretty much sucked for 90% of my warranty visits. This one being the kicker.

And obivously my tranny fluid was low. Unbelievable.

that sounds a bit...sketchy. The guy I bought my car from said the one and only time he had his oil changed at the dealership, they left the oil cap loose on the valve cover...quality work at its finest.

This seems to be common practice at Pohanka. Check out this thread:

Sorry to hear that, how utterly ridiculous. I have found that with dealerships it's best to speak to the same service manager every time that you go. When you begin to know them by name and call them as such they will do the same.

I have developed a rapport with 3 service managers and two bodyshop guys at the Honda dealership I go to, and I always get great caring service there. But I suppose the dealership you go to can't be terrible in the first place, which it sounds like this one is.

That is bad.

Both my Honda and Acura service departments are very different where the Acura dealer only has a small crew and a single service manager.

The Honda dealership sells MB, LandRover, BMW and Porsche along with Honda but their level of service is top notch even with multiple service consultants/managers.

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

Pohanka in general is a terrible dealership. It's all about volume there. Every aspect is about how much they can do, not the quality of work or service. They try to sell as many cars as possible, fix/repair, service as many as possible, etc.

In regards to the cost of the tranny fluid change, it didn't cost me anything since it was part of the 3rd gear TSB.

But, I have called before to ask the dealerships and they run about $150, which is humorous.

I paid $35 for 3 quarts fo Synchromesh, and paid $35 for my local guy to do the work.

Hope that helps!

+1 BTW the service manual may cost a bit up front... but in the end it will pay for its self if all you do is change your oil and rotate your own tires!!!
