Who's still modding their car post 100k miles?

This may have been asked before, but I was wondering who is still modding their cars after they have reached 100k miles?

The reason I ask is because I have an 06 TL and am thinking about getting coilovers...

Is it worth spending the money on a car with this many miles?

What do you guys think?

As always, thanks in advance!

I say if you plan on staying with that car, why NOT? if you are going to trade it in for 2011 TL then NO!

what makes you think 100k miles is the limit to mod a car?

A lot depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. I agree with Dadon, do it if you're keeping the car.

OP, modding is a disease. Either you're infected or you're not; regardless of vehicle, mileage, financial status, and relationship status.

I'm just starting to seriously mod now at 97k.....my extended warranty runs out in a month and i never wanted to screw with that (it cost me too much $$$ to risk it).

Real fun starts now!

Go for it if you're keeping the car. No point in not. I don't plan on doing too many expensive mods as I know I'm only going to have this car for "only" fourish more years.

approaching 100k now, and i'm scheduled to get an AEM v2 and I'm looking around for the ideal roof spoiler. I'll keep her until the avg monthly cost of repairs/maintenance exceeds payments for a new car.

Ah, good rule of thumb!

I haven't modded and I'm at 75k. That may change once I pop my DIY cherry! (One step at a time...)

Hey OP if you are getting coilovers and you are at 100k miles, probably doin your TL a favor anyways even tho she'll still keep on going as is! Adding some performance parts to her never hurts! =)

PEACE!

wow... Hey OP, keep modding. I see hooked up (as RICE as they can get) 95-05 honda Civs all the time, and I KNOW those things are past the 200k mark.

Whoa!

I go away for a couple hours and I got all these replies.

Thanks everyone!

Okay you guys convinced me. I'm going to keep on modding.

As far as keeping the car... I paid it off over a year ago, so I have NO desire to have another car payment. Plus I've been rear-ended TWICE, so the value of my car is in the shi*ter. BUT, she still runs like a dream. In fact when I went to pick it up at the body shop (from the second rear-ending incident), the guy was like, "Man that car runs as smooth as a baby's bottom." I told him that I have 95k on it, and he couldn't believe it.

I agree with Leedog!!! I will keep this car until "the avg monthly cost of repairs/maintenance exceeds payments for a new car."

PLUS, my car is manual and my wife can't drive manual. So you know what that means?! I am the only one who drives this car

My wife has already told me that the next car we buy HAS TO BE AUTOMATIC... So that makes me want to hold on to this car even more!!!

I developed that mindset when I had my last pos car (Dodge), and it was getting ridiculous how much I was putting into it...the bluebook value on it was nothing (think i got like 2k for it from the dealer), and I was spending more each month to fix things than a payment on a new car! Was quite simple to me, I could be spending this amount every month and drive around in this POS, or spend this amount and drive around in something new. Swapped the Dodge for the TL shortly thereafter

I think some people really can't afford a lot of mods or the expensive one's while they are still making payments. By the time the car is paid off it may have around 100K miles on it. Now they have cash to burn for mods.......

I'm still going strong with mine at 97,000 miles. When parts need replacing I always upgrade them. Stock rotors warped so I installed the 13" Rotora kit. Stock shocks felt a little soft, I did the Konis. Tires wore out, replaced them with 255 NT05s, etc. This is how I justify spending money on mods while I'm still making payments.

I'm not looking forward to the trans going out but when it does the car will get one of the most needed and effective mods, a high stall convertor.

60k here for an 05 wdp 5at. I will never mod. don't see the point really to upgrade parts that would give me modest gains in the powerband and I don't really go to the track so that rules out suspension upgrades. The sound system is pretty decent too except for the sub so I guess thats a start.

I'm not. I might do more exhaust work if I get bored but I'm done with everything else. I switched jobs and now use the TL primarily for my commute so now my sole purpose is to have it last as long as possible with putting as little money into it as possible.

The mods are now for the supra

It depends if your car is a primary or daily driver vs. a hobby car or toy. If it is a primary driver (like mine is) then you should try to keep a car no longer than 5-7 yrs and upgrade. If it is a hobby car that you don't run all the time, the sky is the limit, mod away.

With a daily driver I personally don't think it is really worth it to put serious money into a 100K. Rims/tint/exhaust/bodykit/lowering is about all I would do. If you want to go all out you should start when the car is young.

I'm at 80k and I modded from day one slowly and consistently. My only regret is I should have bought a beater a LONG time ago and my car would probably have just half the miles on it that it has now.

In terms of mods it is pretty much at where I want to stop because it's where I want it to be. LOVE the car no doubt. But honestly don't see myself going another couple years or past 125k. I'll want an upgrade by then for sure.....And all those mods and hardwork....sigh. Will sadly be history. Enjoy everything for the moment. All for the love of modding and totally worth it.

You sound just like me when I bought my TL. A year later it had Konis and a sound system. Two years later were tires and a-spec suspesion. Three years were the BBK and some others I can't remember. It just sort of happens. But I do agree with you on engine mods. Mine is bone stock because the $100/hp is just not worth it. I belive that if my hobby car had not gone down for a couple years the TL would still be bone stock but it's just in my blood and I had to do something in those 2 years.

I'd like to keep this car for quite sometime (most likely past the 105k service mark). I am approaching 67k relatively quickly. My next upgrade will be a-spec m/t suspension. After that, maybe an a-spec lip kit.

As far as mods, well the car felt floaty around the turns so I wanted to flatten that out a bit. I installed a CT rsb. While I was doing that it turns out I broke my d/s rear end link. I replaced both end links. I also put on Goodyear Eagle GT tires about 6 weeks ago. That's it for the handling department.

When it came to braking I was on my second set of rotors and they were warped within 20k of installing them. So I upgraded to racingbrake rotors and et300 pads. If you have a 5AT it's awesome and an extremely worthwhile upgrade. There is hardly any need to replace the caliper unless you either track your car heavily like IHC or want the looks.

My engine received a K&N drop in filter because I didn't want to change out the air filter annually as I was doing in the past. I don't have many mods (nor do I really want to), but I certainly wouldn't let the mileage hold me back.

I would have no problem putting the turbo on a 100K mile TL. It's not like old cars where they're falling apart at 100K. Most people think my car has extremely low mileage. It looks new, it drives like new, the only indication that it has nearly 100K miles on it is slight wear on the top of the steering wheel and the seats which have looked this way since it had 50K. It literally shifts better than new, handles better than new, and the engine is quiter than new.

This is the first car that I'm confident I will get greater than 300K out of it so modding makes sense at 100K when you look at it that way..... well the GN has nearly 300K but that was 4 engines ago, 6 transmissions, one axle, and one complete wiring harness along with a body off frame restoration lol.

i keep the mods aesthetic...I actually owned an evo..so i agree with the guy in which spending 400 for a measly 20hp isnt worth it @ all...but i enjoy the car i just miss the speed and turbo..after driving 500+whp w/ the maintenance schedule of a newborn baby and constantly fixing a new problem every week...its good to have a reliable car thats dependable...alot less headaches thats for sure ...Its prettier too..lol..I still miss my baby though (EVO)
