Where can I get a molybdenum additive to blend in with my Mobil 1.

Well, yesterday I just went ahead and got my first oil change at:

MID 50%
Mileage: 3,950

Even though the service advisor was really against it and said it is a waste of money.

Oddly enough, i asked her about the break-in oil additive and she said that Honda doesn't put anything special. Just regular oil.

I decided to put in Mobil 1 10/30.

However, from what I've been reading on this forum, I should still put in a molybdenum additive because my engine is still breaking-in until 8,000 miles.

Where can I get a molybdenum additive to blend in with my Mobil 1 synthetic?

Don't worry about it unless you changed your oil at 1000 miles.

I'm quite surprised that the shop willingly installed 10w-30, but to each his own on their oil viscosity choice.

You should have ran your car harder. Mine is at 15% with only 4200 miles.

If you still want a moly additive, I recall Road Rage recommending Valvoline Max Life Engine Protector. It comes in a 15oz red plastic container. Should be available at most auto parts stores; maybe even at Wally-Mart.

If I remember correctly the dealer, (might have been a Pontiac or Nissan dealer tho), sells something called Break-in oil. The oil was greenish orange in color, and has molydenum in it. This conversation was a few years ago tho.

But like a previous poster said. If you have over 3,000 miles, you prob don't need to worry about it. Break-in is usually the first 600 miles. At least, with the break-in oil I mentioned above.

Well, i was reading a lot of posts on this in this forum about the breakin oil additives they put for new car. You'll be surprised how many Acura service advisors don't know this.

All engines have a "break-in" oil, but only Honda makes a big fuss about leaving it in.

When engines are assembled, an additive "rich" assembly lube is used. When the initial 5w-20 oil fill is installed, this small amount of assembly lube is washed into the engine oil. The purpose of the assembly lube is to "spike" the level of anti-wear additives to provide additional protection during wear-in.

Most manufacturers don't care as to whether you leave it or not, or so to say, most people never change their oil early anyways so its a non-issue. But Honda is very particular about this and wants the assembly lube to do its job and provide that additional anti-wear protection up until the first scheduled oil change.

Honda's assembly lube is rich in MoDTC. GM's is high in ZDP. If anything, I'd add the "silver bottle," Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment. The problem with most of these additives is that they will boost your oil viscosity by almost one full grade, depending on the amount added.

That's what I used at 3,000 miles (with Mobile 1 10W-30). My used oil lab analysis when I changed again at 5,000 miles (9 months later) showed the moly content about the same as the factory oil from my last analysis.

Or, alternatively, you can use Havoline 5W-20 which is nearly identical to the factory fill.
